Red Box games Dwarf Lord

Painted this guy up over the course of a week. He's super teeny! I see lots of problems, and one thing I need to do is check out Picassa for editing pics. Brett Johnson/Darklod reccomended it as the autoleveling feature for light levels on GIMP is doing my brain in. Just little things like it seems to work awesome in some insatances and knock out highlights and such in others. This is fairly decent representation this time, though some parts looked like it suffered some. Anyway...

nice work! man, that guy is tiny. i really like your color palate. the very neutral beige and tan of the clothing help define the focal points: the very nicely painted face on the front and shield on the back. i dont really like the blue blade/sheath on the front though, and the base is only ok. in all, excellent job on one of my favorite red box figs with a fantastic muted color palate. nice.

Many thanks for painting this guy up Scott ! He looks great! This is one of my personal favorite projects. People may not often assoiciate spears with Dwarves ( or much else for that matter ) but I see it as the only truely appropriate weapon for a short race.... Anyway. Thank man. I have been lookign forward to seeing a painted version of this character. :D

Wonderful piece... I like that you choose to go with metallics, done right metallics are often more realistic for miniatures than NMM. I always view NMM as highly polished pieces of armor or small accents on a piece (for example silver trim). I like the miniature to start, I agree on the spear comment about dwarves. The blue blending on the shield is solid and gives it almost a painted wood appearance. The layers on the skin and cloth look good and smooth, makes me jealous to see how clean you can make it for such a small piece. My only comment I guess is scale, the miniature is very small and the bushes surrounding him seem pretty large for what I think might only be small plants. Other than that don't see much wrong with it...

Very cool little dude. What about adding a little red on his nose? Just one or two diluted washes on the tip should do it. i reckon that could add a little more character to him. I'm loving the minis coming out of Red Box. That Chaos lord looks pretty sweet too!
