Painted just 'cause. I really liked this mini and this was the longest I've put into a single mini. Please fire away any crits! Thanks again gang.

I like the skin tone, and the helmet blending quite a bit. Also am very fond of the naturalistic muted colors.

I do think the shield could have used some sort of design or emblem, just to break it up. I also am not fond of the helmet being the same color as the skirt part (the painting is good, just don't like the sameness of the color)

Basing is very good, but the sides of the presentation plinth seem a bit rough.

your blending sure are getting better and better scott, nice work here! i agree about the shield, an enblem had been nice to break it up and make the whole piece more interresting.

i like it. very realistic color palate. fully agree with the above comments, and id like to see you work on the weathering a little bit. a direct shot of the face would be nice as well.

how do you do those leafy bushes of yours?

Very cool! I really like the skintone and the base. :) Good work!
Some day I have to paint a Redbox mini by myself, really like them. :D

Thanks guys, and some good points there especially about the shield. Another comment I have gotten is that the earth looks alittle mono tone and flat. So I'll work on that.

The bushes are pieces of leaf foliage from Silfor. I forget the name of the specific ranges but I just tear off a clump and glue it too the base with some Zap-A-Gap-A-Goo which is a nice flexible and clear drying glue.

Those are some really nice bushes so I guess maybe it's worth the price but yow! $25 a package?!

I agree that your blending has gotten a lot better Scott.

The shield in particular is just about dead on IMO - smoothly done but just irregular enough to still be 'interesting' and the metals on the shield boss look great.

Only thing that really stands out like a sore thumb though is the cuts/scores on the shield. Partly because they're so regular but also because the highlights look like they're done in white or light grey. A lighter red (a dull pink, peachy or flesh colour) would work much better, just like used along the top edge.

TY again guys,

Einion, I think you make a good point. What do you think about maybe just glazing over the whiteish scratches next time with the basecoat of the shield? That might be a good catch all solution regardless of the colour I am scratching up. Or maybe I should just go with what I use for the final edge highlights, which was bronzed flesh (...or maybe a lighter flesh like elf flesh... can't remember now). for doing scratches in the future. Hunh. Anyway, good call amigo, and thanks to all!

Really nice! The base foliage is very impressive. I LOVE the tones on the leather.

I agree that the skirt matching the color of the helmet is off. The helmet's supposed to be metal, right? Also, something about the eyes seems a little off, but I can't see them very clearly from these angles.

Yeah, that can work.

I would generally go with a lighter mixed colour but either method is fine, long as it gives the results you're looking for.
