Regarding Prices

Bulk buying from manufacturers is great for them because it gets rid of stock that ruins, perishes or goes out of style or have to shift for whatever reason(extorsionate mark up etc lets them afford to do this).

We as artists and the work we produce don't suffer from these thing but do suffer from an already tiny profit to work ratio that does not need dilutung more. your skill is precious and the works you produce with that rare skill are unique. Do not de-value your skill or your work, ever. even if it makes a quick buck/quid/groat. We are all worth so much more.

"Bulk buy"? Don't let anyone fool you. A whole army painted well is probably worth more than the sum of its parts, so to speak.

I think a whole army is a tricky thing to sell, outside of doing them on commission. They are sold to "play" more than "display", right? So a higher standard paint job might have less value, considerably less after a certain degree. The bigger issue, to my way of thinking, is the options. You buy an army from random_company_X and do it up yourself, you get exactly what you want to play...you go and buy an army someone else painted you have to play what the painter liked and usually you'll lose out on most, if not all of the little extra bits and bobs, weapon options, etc.

Having said that, I'll echo what's been said and say I hope you don't under value your time, skill, effort, experience, etc. It is a real crime what so many artists work for hourly...

nice philosophy but no good if he can't pay his bills..

i agree with nsa, quick, tidy paintjobs will probably earn more per hour than beautifully done stuff. that said, as mentioned, a whole army in one go might be hard to push. maybe just do squads, regiments etc

but what do i know?

From what I have seen on Ebay, generally speaking a whole army will sell for less than if the units were sold off individually. There are exceptions in the case of really well painted armies but they are rare and as stated not generally seen outside of commission work. I certainly wouldn't expect to offer a discount for bulk buying on a commision. There might be some discussion after I'd given out a price but it's not something I would offer up front.

I'd sell them as seperate units, but get them online around the same sort of time (Up on Thursday evening - 10 day auction to end of Sunday evening and get 2 weekends of views). Aproximate suggestions from me based on selling off a lot of painted minis recently (I always add a good and in depth, friendly, characterful description and have 100% positive feedback at 1800, so if you're a long way below this reduce price slightly) going top to bottom, you should put them on with a starting price of:

Hope for the best from that point. At least you won't get utterly stuffed if people don't bid them up a lot. With a bit of luck 2 people will be building up an army at the same time and start going at each other. As there are quite a few less recent and not increadibly desirable models from an ebay point of view though, you'll possibly end up disapointed with the final tally for well painted models? Hope they do well though

Thanks man, I thought those were buyitnow prices and I was looking for my boggle-eye smiley!
I will be using buy it now, no sense risking a good product on the right buyer turning up at the right time...
How do we find smilies now anyway?
