Returning Painter

Hey Folks,

after a 20 year absence from painting i have rekindled my love of a hobby hich i spent mch of my youth absorbed in. Things have changed a lot since my day of drybrushing and dark washing mini's and settling for that. I have started building a collection of minis, mostly bloodbowl teams (i forgot how amazing this game was!) and currently have 4 teams to paint. So my question is this: are there any decent online painting tutorials out there - not necessarily the games workshop ideal, as i have read a lot of differing opinion on this method. I have tried the armypainter quickshade method but the results are underwhelming. So, any step by step guides from priming, to layering and highlighting would be useful. I read a lot that the current method is to thin paints and layer glazes on 1 by one - time consuming for a bloodbowl team, but i guess the results will be worth it.
Thanks in advance!

You don't have to look any farther than these forums to find that kind of info. Check out the sticky thread here
Some of the links are defunct, but if you need help with any aspect of this hobby, just ask and the friendly faces here will be glad to help.

Not as much as you'd think... some people still do just that*.

Welcome back to the hobby dude.

*Generally only for minis for play, but not always.

As always, Einion shows up with words of wisdom. I recently started frequenting the Reaper forums (waiting on a pile of Bones), and the people there primarily paint for play, and their techniques and views are accordingly different. I guess look at the mini, and think about what your intent with it is. That will help determine how far down the rabbit hole you need to go.

I guess for now i will only be painting BB teams for play, but certainly will be painting up some stuff just for the pleasure.

Cant believe i left it so long...

Welcome back to the hobby. You are in good hands here. I can't tell you how many tricks I've stol- um, "borrowed" from the friendly folks here. Take a browse through the articles section too as there are tones of great tips in there and as others have already said: Don't hesitate to ask :)

Welcome back to the hobby, and welcome to the forums, too. As you can no doubt see, folks here are very willing to chip in with advice. Don't fret about how other people paint, particularly, just do what you want to do, and if you want to achieve a certain look or level of detail have a dig around the articles or just ask, and folks will be happy to point you in the right direction.

Oh, and post pics of your work in the WIP section. Very helpful, that is :)
