What a tragedy. I really, really hope he pulls through with minimal long-term damage. One of the nicest blokes on the telly :(

Also, I wish the f***ing press would lay off.. kneejerk arseholes that they are

A huge tragedy in my books.

Great guy and great programme.

They still went too far on this one IMO. WTF was a TV presenter doing traveling in excess of 300mph in a jet car??? The Health and Safety Executive will descend like a ton of bricks on this one I am afraid. I hope it doesn\'t mean the end of Top Gear, or moderately risky stunts.

Sorry to be ignorant, but, what actually happened?
I dont see much of the news, but from the bits and pieces iv heard today, he crashed a really fast car? Is he critical?

They were using a jet car at tremendous speed. First go went great, but they told him they want thim to do it again becuase they wanted more footage. From what i heard the car just went out of control and went on to the field and continuously rolled.

Agreed... an utterly ludicrous stunt. The media seem to be pushing for a dismal outcome to be honest.

Yeah... critical (but now stable) condition with significant head injuries.

That\'s a totall shame, really like the hampster! He makes cars fun! His columns pretty funny too.
Poor Hampster, hope he makes a full recovery :)

Sadly it seems today that is all the media wants. Bad news sells better than good.

And ,of-course, you get the usuall bunch of pricks that think it\'s funny.

I find it amazing that the BBC let him do this but wouldn\'t let Jeremy Clarkson drive his own Rolls Royce in to a swimming pool last series even with loads of safety gear. They got a professional stuntman to do it for him and pretend. ???

I heard that it wasn\'t even supposed to be Richard doing this stunt originally but James \"Captain Slow\" May? If that\'s true he must be feeling pretty low about the whole thing now.

Yeah I hope he pulls through OK.
Not a fan of Top Gear, (Think Clarkson\'s an Ass) but even Fran thinks Hammonds an OK guy.
Which says a lot as she has very strong views about celebrities.
