Pictish Mini Painting

I'm actually a man!
Hi folks, well a busy few weekends with inlaws visiting a lot I got a few bits done, mainly by making Sandbags...Lots and lots of sandbags.

Came out pretty well for a first go, I am now in the process of making barbed wire out of 0.4mm wire....(twitch).

The Diorama base is coming along well, again lost of stone and brick manufacture, but its coming along well.

Hoping to get base black\white undercoat done soon and then start on the figures proper.

All looking great. On the base for the tank, I would drop the one side wall so you can see the side of the tank (to see more of the paintjob on the tank)

Cheers Ten Ball,

I see what you mean about the side, it's something to think about, however it would mean a fair bit of surgery on the base but not too difficult.

The only thing I would be worried about would be the idea of the scene is lost if I take away one side as it looses the 'pit' idea that its been pushed into a hole in the road as a desperate last defence, it may look more like its sitting in a dug out large area, if you get my meaning.

I'll have a think, I could do it by cutting off the section of the shorter side 'wall' and plasticard it so its smooth and look like its a cut out of the real world a bit like a 'cut-away' engine type of deal.

There is a lot of space at the back that will have the rear hatch open of the Armageddon basilisk to see it all internally and the top turret sticks out a fair bit too so I will have to make a decision on this before I apint.

I get that its In the vehicle category but if I lose the 'story' element I worry that it wont look as interesting, as I feel I need to grab the judges attention this year with something eye catching rather than a tank in a brown L frame :)

Update time:

Well been an age since I was able to sit down and work but been a busy week at work but final stretch to holiday in a week :)

Main work has been going into the tank vehicle entry, with the main base tweaked slightly (added corrugated sidings and reinforcement to the dug out earth and added some pipe and cabling coming out of the ground to look like a dug out road.

Started the process of painting the interior using light sand\cream colours and a coat of Klear in readiness for chipping and oil washes which will be tonight\this weekend.

The gun control mount and floor I found once I had put it together had a flaw and needed about .5cm of filler so that is on and awaiting to be sanded flat and sprayed as you will see it very prominently when looking into the crew compartment.

Lots still to do!

Base wise i have the shell casings and some bits and pieces of detail like fuel cans, barbed wire etc.

Hopefully get it finished tomorrow.

Yep looks like a real tank! Real good.
Buuuuuuuuuuuuut does it fit in the 40k world where all the tanks seem to be blue, red, yellow etc?

for an imperial guard (or astra mechanium blahbla as its called nowdays COPYRIGHT by gw) tank it would fit the 40k world perfectly. however at GD it will be a bit tough to gain attention to this piece me thinks. but then again, GD is a weel of fortune anyway.

great job on the weathering!

YES it's Imperial guard, the "Grunts", "Ground Pounders", "PBI", "Cannon Fodder", the ones who have to cross the last One hundred yards and do nasty things to other poor bastards with the modern equivalent of a sharpened stick.
It Fits!

Cheers guys :)

The pics are very yellowed as they were taken uner a house lamp which isnt helping.

The colours were taken from imperial armour source books so colours are GW\FW however i agree making it stand out is something i am aware of, but TBH i am enjoying the build so will see how it goes, one of the other entries will be a LOT more colourfull ;)

Rick, it looks FANTASTIC! These guys are just jaded. Except Dragonsreach... he's just old. :p
I resent that remark……………….……I'm Vintage, I'll have you know!

(Fact is Fran and I both got asked if we wanted our Senior Citizen Discount at a Shoe shop on Monday.
Poor girl didn't know where to hide when we said we weren't Old Enough!)

Hey guys a quick question.

I am doing a third entry, a tyranid in the jungle type thing.

Its a lictor and i was going to enter it into the large 40k category however the base is a 100mm sqaure plinth i made with a small jungle scene with the lictor in the trees etc, however to make it have a removable standard 40mm base is doable but i wondered about the legality of this as it is on a 40mm base with stuff on it and it goes into a an extension of the scene but can be removed for viewing etc.

But i am not sure if that wll go against getting noted as its not obvious its on a seperate base.

I am also thinging about mounting it directly on the base and entering it into the Open category.

However i am unsure if entering the open category isnt an exercise in futility?

Any thoughts.

ppl say the open category it more or less a cotegory for the gw crew to award each other lol.

as long as the mini is attached on an apropriate gaming base, there should be no problem with having it on a display base. i think the criteria is that it (gaming base) has to be viewable. if not, the mini on its base has to be removable from the display. hope you get what i mean ive been writing reports all day long my head is a bit messy...

Ah, finally some to read the updates where I can see the pics (damned work-proxy). Great stuff, love the builds of the diorama's and excellent paint jobs.
How's it going on the Taurox, that tactical belly rub scenario has me intrigued.

Taurox is on hold as changed ideas, but will finish it eventually just for a project.

Warhammer Fest news was quite late and had shelved the project assuming there wasnt a GD happening, and it wasnt right and would have needed too much work to get right for competition.

More goings on.

I took the masking tape off the basilisk and pretty chuffed with the look.

All i need to do to this is paint the shell casings and shells, the chain on the tank and add some barbed wire and possibly a civilian painted oil barrel. and i will call it done.

The second entry was today's work and i got the base painted in its main colour's and modulations and the scout vehicle i got painted and weathered with final pick out painting all that's left on it things like the searchlight)

Oh and started entry No 3.

Getting there!
