Rinsing water quality.

back to my usual chalky painting with only water brain storming...
I use distilled water for diluting.
But tap water for rinsing...

I never let my rinse water get cloudy with paint... maybe slightly tinted, but I wouldnt even say murky.

Perhaps as tap water its bad? I would say no, because after rinsing I drag the brush across a paper towel.

I can\'t imagine tap water would be bad as your brush rinse.....

But distilled water is cheap...and you already have it. I say use it if you think there is an issue.

Hell...I even DRINK my tap water....

Have you ever tried using airbrush thinner in your paints? That out to help smooth things out. Or even adding a couple of drops of glycerin to the paint itself.

Heheh, yeah I actually drink my tap water too... all the time.

So far... I have used, Future Floor wash 1:5 with water, WN Flo Enhancer 1:4 with water, WN Flow enhancer with Liquitex slo-dry 1:1:2 with water, and finally, distilled water.

I think the additives or whatever have seemed to help in some areas... nothing magical except maybe for shading and washes... The slow dry is really neat cuz I can swish the paint around for a while, but the shininess is annoying.

Sounds more like a technique issue than a water issue.

Are you drybrushing?

Using white to blend for highlights?

Brand of paints?
