god i love hasslefree stuff!
actually finished something - gave up fiddling with the pics - this is the best i can manage!

decided to go for a classic british riot uniform. also tried to get some variation on the black bits (grey-black for the soft bits and blue-black for the shiny bits) - it didn\'t really work though! i sculpted the base myself using procreate, plaster and plasticard

he\'s not that shiny irl - i dull coted him and everything!!

i\'m not going to change anything but i would still be interested in what you think- so i can bear it in mind for future stuff

here he is!!

Thats a cool mini.

Good tones and shading on the skin and clothing. Nice job on the base; I defintly know I\'m looking at a piece of curb and street! :D

Crits: 1. I can see the white halo from the photoshop selection. I also see striations in the gradient in the second image, perhaps due to jpeg compression. You should try printing out a gradient and using it as your background when you shoot. Saves a lot of time , and I think it comes out better.

2. All the black stuff looks the same: helmet, baton, vest, etc. Maybe thats intentional, but I would like see some variation. Maybe the helmet and the baton should look shiney.

All in all a fine job, I gave it a 7

Thats a pretty cool mini, lol when I first read the title I thought it was one of the hot fuzz minis for sure :p

Great work on the flesh and the base is excellent, I like how the blue turned out, not 100% on how the riot outfit looks over there but the blue looks right on for a dickies blue coverall like mechanics where. The black is the only part that looks a bit flat.

All in all a solid 7, now he just needs some protesters to beat on the head.;)

I say solid 7 also. I like the depth of colors that are there, especially in the blue parts.

The face tends to disappear a bit there though. I\'d say work on the contrast of the face, so it becomes the focal point, and leave the rest well enough alone!

Cool base too!

Posted comment and score.

I agree with most all of what was said above. Nice work.

Getting contrast out of Hasslefree figs. can be a challenge, but yea\' i love them too. I\'m building a zombie game just to have something to play with the adventurer line.

a good excuse! it\'ll be worth the effort!

thanks for the advice guys, there was more contrast but the dull cote took the top highlights off. i also didn\'t want to get it too bright as i wanted the fabric (his riot vest and overalls etc) too look matte and dull.

having said that i did want his hard stuff (ooh-er! ie truncheon, shield, helmet etc) to look shinier. looking at him irl, he still needs more done so i may add a little more highlighting on them. also thinking of adding little ciggie butts and chewing gum to the base

my photoshop/photography skills suck so i can\'t really do a lot about that!

thanks again!

Bloody hell!!! You\'ve painted something! ;)

Nice work! The blue-black looks more blue than black. But, on the other hand it makes a nice variation in the colour scheme and the mini more interesting to look at, than if it was more black all over. Keep it up, now that you\'ve got the ball rolling. You might have another mini done before you know it. :)

I like him, though agree with others that the blacks look a bit \"flat\". I\'d like to see some sharp highlights to give it a \"shiny black leather\" look, but everything else looks great to me. Solid 7 indeed.

at last i found one of the ref images i was useing:

pd506488.jpg

as you can see, the blue is dark and the black is dull. maybe if i used a slight bit of brown to the black it would have helped?
