I didn't hear about it until now, but the creator the c programming language and co-creator of unix has passed away.

One of the most important computer scientist of our day.

Thanks you for noticing. Yes, it happened couple of days ago. Unfortunately Dennis Ritchie was never interested in self-promotion and is much less known than some other recent "digital prophets", and yet his contribution was immeasurably more important and I dare say longer lasting that pretty user interfaces.

I'm a unix bod of many years - as such I'm greatly saddened by the passing of one of the fathers of what puts food on my table and a roof over my head. The spirirt that Richie worked in is the reason I am who I am today. Unfortunately it seems a fair few people who have little idea of what they are talking about choose this time to disrespect his passing by using it as an excuse to besmirch another pioneer of the IT generation who recently passed, a sad day in more ways than one.
