I hadn\'t heard of him, but his impact on our fine hobby is too large to ignore. RIP Mr Gygax.

There goes a man who changed the world in a way that affected so many. Sorely missed but his legend lives on.

RIP. Without you, mine and millions of others lives whould have been so very different. I only ever played D&D once but that was enough. To think that without you and your vision of fantasy gaming so much might not have come to pass. For me it is computer gaming that has meant so much ever since the late 70s, I feel this industry owes you a debt of gratitude for without you, computer gaming and computing in general might not have reached where it is today as demand drives progress.

How much modern fantasy literature, television and film can be traced to D&D\'s effect on those currently involved in those media? Would the LOTR trilogy ever have been made?

Sad to see this fella go and at 69 at that he got to live a decent life but still cut short. Atleast he was gifted the satisfaction of seeing his creation bloom into such a large and living entity. And he got see that he left his mark on the world and gave something enjoyable to many and did it by doing what he loved.
I only had a short time playing D&D while in high school but I can say that it was one of the very few situations that I have expirenced where 2 high schoolers, a middle schooler, a college student, an accountant in his 30\'s,a grungy biker in his late 30\'s early 40\'s, and a former clown from ringling bros who was atleast in his 50\'s could end up finding something that could bring them together in fun and friendship. That is a slice of magic that is rare.

Now I think He\'d have really appreciated that one. lol
I\'m not going to make any sad comments about his passing as he gave so many people a means of enjoyment and escape.

Good grief. This is very sad news. But by creating something so huge and touching the lives of so many, he has achieved a kind of immortality. RIP, man. We won\'t forget you.

I met him briefly at the booth at last year\'s Gen Con. I even got an autograph on the Castle supplement he was selling for the C&C system.
What really got to me was the fact that he died at the (from my 47 year old perspective) relatively young age of 69. I mean there is an irony in dying at at age, in a Bevis and Buthead sort of way but it\'s still too young ... too young.
