Rippers: The Horror Wars

Hi, my first post here.

I thought you guys may be in the know regarding the game \'Rippers: The Horror Wars\'. Basicallly, its very hard to find any in depth info regarding this product, e.g., are the minis any good?, the rule set? etc.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated as I think it looks really cool, the sort of gothic victorian horror game I had in my \'Minds Eye\'. If you recomend any other games along these lines I would also really appreciate it.

I guess this is all a big ask really especially for a first post but I didnt know where else to ask to be honest, thanks again!

I don\'t know anything about the Rippers game, but there\'s an interesting new French game called Hell Dorado in the works. The miniatures for this looks very promising (no wonder, since it\'s the Ilyad people who do the miniatures). It\'s a horror game set in hell.

I haven\'t played Rippers itself, but I do play Savage Worlds all the damn time (which is the system Rippers uses). You can find a lot out on Pinnacle\'s site: www.peginc.com.

Personally, I really like the system, though I\'ve used it more for RPG than minis (and yes, it\'s actually designed for *both*). The community over at PEG is pretty helpful, so I\'m sure you\'d be able to get a lot of your questions about this game answered there.

I haven\'t played Rippers, either, but have played a bit of Savage Worlds and browsed through some of the books. The RPG system is more of a broad strokes and get to the playing rather than one that gets mired in detail. They definitely go in for unique setting concepts. Unnecessary Evil is a cool idea, and Low Life has to be the most unique setting I\'ve seen so far. I thought it sounded really stupid when I read the general promo material, but when it came in the store I ended up reading the whole book other than the just for GM stuff, which I may yet go ahead and read, since I don\'t think I\'m all that likely to end up playing that one. The same guy did all the writing, creative effort and drawing in the book, and it\'s funny, weird stuff.

Unfortunately none of that really helps answer your question about the minis game, which works as a stand alone product. There are pictures of the cards which include pictures of the minis on that site Valander listed, but I can\'t really figure out where the actual minis are. Maybe email them and ask?

I was always a GW freak but now have lost my taste for it after about 15 years. Get tired of the mass price hikes, overhaul of perfectly good figures, and the scale isssue with metal and plastic LOTR was ridiculous. Maybe when they recruit they shldnt recruit uber GW fanboys and go for people who maybe like other games and this might bring them in line with some of the other stuff that could leave them in dust if they\'re not careful.
