Road to Golden Demon finalist pin!

I have never entered Golden Demon and went last year for first time.
Felt like i was missing out on a huge part of the by not participating in anything.
So my goal is now to see if i can make it through the first cut this year and further next.
This isn't a planned entry just a first quick practice run.
The base on this was done in silly quick time just to see what a piece of pine bark from a flower bed looked like.
Although the photos are not too bad i am getting alot of glare from my light.

looks pretty solid to me, although I must confess to being a huge fan of bark on bases My only crit would be the blue bits in the metal are too strong and draw the eye too much. Tone them down a bit, and you're golden

The blend on the helmet horn could be better too.

But its a pretty solid piece of work. If i'm going to be nasty i'd say the skin is a bit bland for GD but still looks good and better than i could do.

the innets. yall need to do something about those the goo doesnt look like it came from the blue innets. change the blue colour to something more organic or give it a few green glazez and some ardcoat. never tone anything down when it comes to gw competitions, they love those crazy colours, realistic is a big nono. but you need to put the right colours on the right places the skin could indeed be a bit less bland, check mrdees "something fat and disgusting"-thread for nurgly skin details. since a lot of the mini is green, i would put some more vibrant reds in there, blood or goo for example, since these are complementary colours. other than that, since you´re going for a pin, i´d add some more details that make the mini exciting, rats? skulls? a sign? some bugs? freehand? that´s up to you=)

This is looking fantastic so far. Your chances of getting a GD pin are looking very strong. To improve your odds in the competition though I agree with ischa on few points. The base could use a little garnishing to it as of right now it looks quite plain, although well painted. It's hard to tell from the picture but the horn on the helmet could use some texture to it, as right now it sort of looks like a simple gradation from brown to beige/white. Overall thought it looks great man.

This would get you a pin imo. Very clean painting in a GW style. Just remember that single figures have to be on their appropriate bases.

yeah the guy will be transfered to the open category with that base, and the open category is more random than anything.
