Hello from Austria

A short introduction about myself you´ll find here:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/showthread.php?62229-Rohda-from-Austria

Although i´m a beginner I would like to show you my first project.

It´s a Minotaur from Marrow Production on a little Base. I plan to do the base in a palace of knossos style and paint the minotaur in human skintones (for practice) - maybe the head in a diffrent color.

What do i want to achieve? Have fun and learn something.

Now some impressions about the base and figure.

Hope you like it and i would like to hear what you think about it.

I don't think there's any critique to give at this point, its all looking good so far, I like where its going

Oh very nice start! Maybe some dings and dents in that shield or maybe some scratches on the column that match the spacing of the spikes on his club to tie him into the scene more and give a little narrative.

Welcome aboard!

I like all the elements on here - a really good setup - but not sure about the beast's position. There doesn't seem to be an angle where you can view him without the club being obscured by the column. Perhaps turn him 90 degrees more towards the camera in the first shot?

And Zab's scratches idea on the column is good too.

Hey guys - thank for your tips and hints.

I´ll consider the scratches on the column - really nice idea. Hope it will work out cause it allready broke once but i could glue it together without big damage.

The position is not perfect - thats right. But theres not enought space for the club besides the column and i want to keep the figure up the stairs. I also liked the idea that Mino ist looking at the stuff Theseus left behind when he quickly fled the labyrinth when Mino arrived. (My Theseus is a coward)

Thanks for looking

Hi there fellow painters.

Long time no post, but work and 2 little kids take their time.

I did some work on the Minotaur but see yourself

I also started a new project. The base was built after the excellent base-tutorial by Ben Komets @ painting buddha.

Hope you like it and you got some hints and tips for a beginner at miniature painting.

New base looks great. Definitely not novice-level work.
I also like the change of position of Theseus' sword. It looks less staged.
Have you been to Knossos? I know you Aussies often do the world tour (good cultural practice, by the way). Knossos was definitely a highlight of my travels!

Love what you've done on both projects so far. The color choices for the column and the minotaur's shield are perfect, look just like they're pulled from a piece of old pottery. I wish the pics were a bit less bright / less washed out so we could see more of your paint-work. I do notice that the metallics (esp on the minotaur's club) could use some washes, weathering, and scratches.

Hello guys!

Thanks for your feedback i´ll do my best to follow them. I´ll try to do some better pics after the next stage - they looked good on camera but not on the pc - sorry for that.

No i haven´t been to Knossos but i´ll go there one day. I took some pix of there as a little reference for my base but its far away from the beauty of the reality.

And one qiuck word to SaintToad i´m from Austria not Australia - we´ve got no kangaroos but high mountains ;)

Greetings from Wels
