Which part of Cali? This place is as big as Iraq.

If you\'re going to the Los Angeles area, you should definitely check out Knott\'s Berry Farm (a theme park), and Huntington beach (great surfing).

Guggenheim Museum....or is it the Getty?
The La Brea Tar pits is DEFINITELY worth the trip - tons of prehistoric bones and such - saber tooth tigers and such - from a tar seep that they got stuck in. The city grew up around it so it\'s not way out of the way either.

Ok, having lived in the Pasadena area for a good portion of my life I can tell you most shows, including Heros, are filmed EVERYWHERE! Drive down the streets of Pasadena at any given time and you\'ll see film crews with thier big vans and truck set up all somewhere. South Pasadena, Mission Blvd, has been used for everything from Teen Wolfe to Halloween and more.

Get into Pasadena and down into Old Town (Colorado Blvd between Arroyo Parkway-ish and Lake street). THere\'s lots of cool shopping there so get out and walk around. While you do remember that that area 30 years ago was one where you NEVER went alone. The city re-built it. Check out the Green Hotel on the corner of Green and Los Robles. It\'s been used in any nuber of scarey movies. Think in terms of blacking out the neighborhood and adding in spooky forests or creepy sea-scapes. While you\'re there go into Stats. Thy should have their Christmas stuff out now. You HAVE to go into the village room. Head into the store and make a bee line to the far right corner. Theres a dark room back there filled with glass display cases. In those cases are displayed EVERY DEPT. 56 VILLAGE THERE IS! I mini collectors dream! All staged and lit. It\'s a place to get lost in. Take pics if they\'ll let you.

As far as the rest of LA, normal turrist stuff is good. Go to Pinks in Hollywood for hotdogs but make sure you block out time. It\'s world famous and the line is incredible. You might spot some celebs there. Just be prepared to drive a bit. Everything is really spread out. That\'s going to be your biggest challenge. Have fun! And PICS! PLEASE!

If you\'re going to be downtown, go to Olvera Street. It\'s a preserved pedestrian-only street from LA\'s earliest hispanic community. AMAZING tacos, and don\'t forget the dessert pastries. It\'s right across from Union Station, which is also a neat place worthy of a look.

I hope you rent a car if you leave downtown, though. LA\'s pretty spread out.

Last Grenadier moved. It\'s not on San Fernando road anymore. It out on Hollywood Way and last time I went the staff were really rude. Might have been because I\'m a chick but they acted like I didn\'t belong and wouldn\'t help me at all. We used to go there all the time when it was over on San Fernando Way. Loved it then. Lots of OOP books and minis. Dice in a big bin in the middle of the floor. Ah well. Time marches on.

If you\'re going to the Los Angeles area, you should definitely check out Knott\'s Berry Farm (a theme park), and Huntington beach (great surfing).

At the risk of sounding like a pretentious ass, both of these locals are in Orange County, south of LA county. I know you said \"LA area\". I just get fussy about it for two reasons: 1- I was born, raised and have lived here all my life and it\'s always been frustrating being lumped in with the them (the LA Battle Bunker is in OC) and my home land never getting recognition except in a bad 90210 knock off (and most of that was filmed in LA). 2- I really dislike LA. Damn near hate the place. : ) It has a few good clubs and Cantor\'s (link) but it\'s really a wretched hive of scum and villainy. : ) Family and friends are the only really good reasons to go there. Booze, sex, and/or food are acceptable if need be. ; )

End Rant (thanks again for tolerating my strong biases)

@Rosac - If you make it this far south... Both of E.T.\'s recommendations are good (just be sure to check the water conditions in HB before you go in the water). Also you might consider doing the traditional Disneyland visit.

For minis shops, I don\'t know of any in LA proper. The closest to downtown LA that I know of is The War House in Long Beach (can\'t find their website so here\'s a review link)
(Long Beach is the southern most city in LA county along the coast)

Or further south, in Garden Grove, is my personal favorite, Brookhurst Hobbies (link ) I wuvses dat pwace :bouncy: It\'s mostly a plastic models shop, but they have an excellent selection of Reaper, Privateer Press, GW boxed items, and Rackham\'s prepainted stuff and a decent selection of a lot of other manufacturers. They also have a BIG bunch of historical minis games. They have a really good section of OOP and older RPG stuff as well as the new stuff. And they ship to Antarctica. : )

i can\'t say enough good things about brookhurst hobbies...they are my main source for non-gw mini in so. cal. for sure...plus they\'re close to disneyland and knott\'s berry farm, so if ya hit up the amusement parks, be sure to stop in at brookhurst first...the selection is great, and what rackham they have left is discounted!!!

@ktooloo: orange county sucks!!!
bunch of right-wing christian conservatives...
i can\'t believe that the anaheim angels changed their name to the l.a. angels...they aren\'t even in l.a.!!!
dodger blue all the way...
huntington beach is a zoo...better to stay in l.a. proper, and hit up hermosa beach...
the real HB...(i\'m just playin\' with ya ktooloo, don\'t get your feathers ruffled)...

cantor\'s deli is the bomb...good old school jewish deli, and right off melrose, if ya like shoppin\' for cool clothes and music...

i\'ve never been to the war house, but they come to the local cons, and their selection is very diverse...my local shop is in torrance, third planet...it\'s pretty much just warmachine and gw, but it\'s a fun spot, and close to the beach...

cheers

I wouldn´t bother going to L.A. It´s always getting struck by terrorists...have you not seen 24!?

Peace and love...

@Jah - lololol true it is really a scary level of conservative in most places. You just have to know where to go and not go. : ) The Angels being rebranded pissed off everyone down here too. Huntington is a zoo and that\'s most of it\'s appeal. ; ) Never been to Hermosa, but heard good things (mostly about the bars and the women).

I\'m good with folks voicing their opinions, I couldn\'t live with myself being hypocritical enough to shut others down while I blab so much. : ) I just get fussy about being lumped in with LA. : ) It\'s just home town pride and only having been to three towns outside of SoCal in my adult life (Las Vegas-NV, Austin-TX, and Medesto-CA).

What cons do you go to? The Strategicon events?

Lates!!!!

Im back.:D

I loved it out there, we were really lucky with the weather, it was perfect. I got some nice shots, and generally had a great time.

universal studios was awesome, we went during the term time, so it was almost completely empty, which was cool. we went to the hot springs, but that was ruined by the fact there where naked old men about, and no young women. gutted.

will put pics up soon
