Rosacs rush golden demon miniature WIP

Hey hey guys and gals, Im returning to CMON for just a few more months before vanishing again due to real life constraints, but for the moment Im here and I am starting to paint my golden demon miniature- a heavily converted seth of the flesh tearers into a deathwatch captain. I will post pics later. Ive just started the black armour with my Chaos black/ shadow grey mix. I just need to ask a quick question though- can inks from GW be used to dull down highlights? The highlights are a bit too extreme for only the 3rd or fourth layer, and I would like to knock it back. Any advice would be accepted. Will post pics when you can see a bit more of the miniature (It is only black with some grey lines on ATM.)

I really need help with blending black, and I am starting to feel it is a fools errand. Should I just use blended edge highlights instead for this mini (the collar was a cock up BTW).

No highlighting on the face yet, this is at the tallarn flesh washed with ogryn flesh/devlan mud stage.

The pic is not very good to see but I think you could highlight the edges and some parts of the armour that are supposed to be brighter depending the position of the light source. Highlighting can be a bit hard but you have to highlight slowly the colour up to the final highlight.
