Royal Mail's new postage rules

I don't often condone online petitions - there are a plethora of ones that exist for the sake of moaning, but this one has been gaining popularity and is being backed by people within our community.

Basically the Royal Mail have decided that it's a sensible idea to implement a restriction on posting of water based paints. You can only post a maximum quantity of 150ml per paint and a maximum of 4 containers per package. Additionally paints must be packaged within a leak proof liner which must be within an absorbent material. The actual guidelines can be found here: http://www.royalmail.com/business/help-and-support/tell-me-about-restricted-goods

The petition can be found here: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petiti...e-restrictions-on-shipping-water-based-paints. I have no idea if this is going to actually make any difference but there really does need to be a clause for "hobby supplies" where more than 4 paints can be in one package.

I totally support this petition.
Royal Mail is seriously failing to consider its primary business or its customers requirements.

I can see it from Royal Mails' point of view - they don't want other peoples mail, or more likely their sorting machines getting messed up by someone sending ill packaged paint...... however the restriction of only 4 pots of paint per package is somewhat limiting. That means you can't send any of the GW paint sets or paint collections without violating the rules ( other manufacturers paint sets are also available).

It's one thing to make people aware of packaging where paints are involved to reduce the chance of leakages ( which I personally agree with), but I do think the limit on how much you can send is far to low. Maybe they should have it as an overall millileter limit as opposed to 4 items @150ml each. You could send a lot of GW paint pots with an overall total of 600ml. - 50 in fact (so my calculator tells me.)
