Okay are we all thinking of the same stuff? is there a difference? I know about polystyrene.... but some of the stuff that I have seen being used is the pink stuff, which seems denser, more compressed and spongy than your everyday polystyrene packaging. Whats is the pink stuff? is that the insulation stuff?

i think that stuff is compressed polystyrene. it also come in blue and i think is generally used for insulation. but i think it is more expensive. there\'s nothing wrong with normal polytyrene for hills.

if you arr worried about it taking a bashing from rigorous gaming (ie by a club/store) try covering it with either textured paint - is flexible and tends to bend a little rather than break. or try covering with platered bandages (you can buy the stuff they use for broken limbs in most art stores) - i think thats what my local store uses

lots of your stuff is bead board - white polystyrene beads compressed. This stuff will fall apart fairly easy.

Styrofoam (brand name) is an extruded polystyrene. Various densities are color coded. blue and pink are the comon builder sheathing products. Either are suitable.

For most terrain, I use 3/4\" (18 mm?) A 25-28 mm mini on a standard game base is partially covered by one layer and completely hidden by 2 layers (generally).

Pretty terrain has smooth slopes up and down. It is very hard to get minis to stand on. Functional terrain is more \"layered\" so the minis can stand on it.

I have used 2in Styrofoam for YEARS!! And it is easy to sculpt/cut/sand, fab stuff!

You can get it from B&Q, most lumber/building suppliers. AND its cheap!! Just take a bread knife to cut it down to \'car\' size when you get it :D
