Rupprecht, a rather pathetic pirate

Yes, I\'ve been a busy little bee... Here\'s another paint job from me... this time for Wyrd Miniatures. You might remember seeing this sculpt when the sculptor, Emanuele Giovagnoni (Poupee Canope), posted it here some time last year. Now, it\'s been cast up and released to the public and I had the honour of doing one of the studio paint jobs for it.

This sculpt has a LOT of character and it was a pure joy to pick it out and shape it with colours.

Comments (and votes) are, as always, most appreciated! :)

Cheers!

I really like the work you do on skin! You\'ve nailed this character from the sun-baked cheeks to the rum-baked nose. =)

I\'d like to see a close up shot of the chest he\'s carrying.

Question: What did you use for the water? It could be the photo but it seems very reflective. Nice effect and overall a very subtle base that is simple yet provides a nice setting for the mini.

The other day you claimed that you were in a bit of a slump...

Harrumph! I wish I had slumps like that! =P

I love what you\'ve done Anders.. Hopefully be able to take some pics of mine sometime soon...grrrrrr... The facial expression on the sculpt is fantastic but as always you have managed to lift it a notch with beautifully delicate paint...big pat on the back he\'s great...

Your pathetic pirate is a pleasure to look at!

Did you use glue to make the water effect on the base?

Thanks everyone! The water is Vallejo Still Water, which in many cases is an awful product (at least in my opinion). It works for smaller amounts of water like this though.

@arogers
The slump wasn\'t really related to mini painting, but yeah, it was a bit of a struggle to get this one done.

This is more or less a perfect job! I like everything about it. Characterful, great work with colours, expression. Super! A 10 for me and this one goes straight into my favourites.

Wow...don\'t think I\'d change a single thing. A rare 10 from me. He\'s such an ugly little squirt. I love him. Great job.

He\'s a weird little guy, isn\'t he? Kinda reminds me of a cross between Piglet from Winnie the Pooh and the Grinch. Anyway, lovely work as always - really like your painting style. The delicate highlighting and shading that you somehow always pull off really brings these characters to life.

Darn it! You always get to paint the cool minis first then I feel foolish trying to paint it after you because I can\'t paint in the same league as you! I love it!
