Rusty Chain Armour - Advice needed

Hi there, ive a bunch of skeletons to paint up and im trying to get a good swift rust effect on there chain armour.

I thought about natural steel with some kind of red/brown wash over it. But im wondering if anyone else has had any experience at this.

Please note this is for an army and there are a lot of them, so something that takes 3 hours to do will not be as good as something that takes 10 mins :) or even 2 mins :)

Cheers people.

A wash would provide some of a certain kind of rust. But that wash would leave the uppermost areas of the chain rust free. To rust that area up, a light drybrush or stipple with some orangey-brown and/or a browny-orange upon the surface would do the trick.

Rust pigment. Simple as. Paint up normally, seal as normal, then mix some pigment with a carrier (alcohol, turps etc) and use that as a wash. Will have a lovely textured, matte finish which you won't get with paints. If you can't get hold of pigments easily, a red-brown pastel (not oil) ground up will work well

Pretty much has already been said. I've done both ways above and they both look good.

1 - Use a GW stippling brush to stipple on Scorched Brown and Firey Orange over a drybrushed base layer. Alternate the layers as you go and don't overdo it.

2 - Mix up rust coloured weathering pigment (or chalk) with a brown paint and paint that on.

When I finally get round to my Ogres I'll likely be using a combination of the above methods on weapons and similar.
