Saliva effects

I\'ve seen this a dozen times....the Tyranid with strings of saliva going from tooth to tooth.

I\'ve attempted this effect about a dozen times so far--and I can\'t seem to pull it off.

Does anyone have any insight as to the medium used and how it\'s done?

I\'ve tried superglue, white glue, epoxy casting resin, epoxy glue, water effects, and some other stuff......
The closest I\'ve hit has been with epoxy glue---but the challenge is that once I get the string from upper to lower, the epoxy gradually pulls the string apart during the drying process.

What I haven\'t tried is using a fishing line as an \"armature\", but as far as I could tell, this isn\'t done.

Anyone ever done this and pulled it off with a high quality result?

Did you try to blend a transparent plastic scrap?
This is one of the method to make falls, why not saliva?

Maybe fishing line and run varnish over it?... probably a bit fiddly to be honest :)

*edit* should have read to the bottom of your post... you already mentioned it :duh:

this is done! our local gore guru, primeval, has used this technique several times with blood. you might ask him for ideas on how to pull this off effectively.

heres how you do it.... theres 2 methods... method 1 would be to use hot glue and apply it to the mouth and let it droop then cut where u want it.. method 2 ist to heat up some clear plastic flying rod and strech it out and glue in place then gloss.. for blood same only paint red then gloss. acid blood ink green then gloss

Find the fastest curing epoxy glueyou can find like 3 min. Mix it according to instructions, add a little paint for pigment and them put a small blob on the upper area and let it drool. You may need to use something like a tooth pick to stretch the slowly curing glob.

I use the string or fishing line method and I use white glue. You have to build this up over time but the effect is worth it.

If you are doing a few then keep a big squirt of white glue on a lid and just start from the first and dab some on working down the line. By the time you get to the end hopefully the first one is ready to go.

After a while the glue on the lid starts to dry and you can put bigger globby bits on. may take 2 -3 days to dry throroughly so if your in a hurry use a hair dryer.

I also use a hot glue gun, like on the following pics I did for a customers GT army. An additional effect is to use the glue for additional stability of the mini like in the second pic.

Thanks for the link Klute...and thanks to everyone else for the input and pictures.

After reading the link, I was on the right track, I just didn\'t wait long enough on the glue, apparently.

I\'ll give it another go this weekend.

Thanks again,
Kev

You mention you have tried various methods, the best being epoxy resin, but which shrinks and \"pulls itself apart\"...

Have you tried simply adding the drool/blood/acid etc in layers...?

Ie. Adding some drool to the top teeth/tongue and allowing it to slowly stretch down until it dries.

Then, adding more to the tip, and letting it stretch further.

Of course, this may take some care to avoid blobbiness, but it may well even add to the effect.

The other methods sound good too.

But with the melting plastic one, make sure your heat source is away from any plastic figures!!

And take safety precautions etc (yawn)
