erm... thats me and my gang (Babylonia, Klute, Palocles and Tooshy here on CMoN), although other than entering GTs when I/we can I am not sure what LavronYor means lol

I think that another thing that is detracting from the GT is the massive growth of online competitions full stop. There is a competition running virtually continuously and the anonymity of these comps means that there are many \'no shows\' like my Ilyad Barbarian which I would have loved to enter. These competitions are also wonderfully well sponsored with lots of prizes which is always going to be more tempting than Kudos if you HAD to pick betwen them.

its a difficult one, but I think it is our duty to support a fellow CMoNer where we can and as this is Zaphods baby I will enter whenever I can, and hope to see more of you enter too! To be honest I didnt really think the Yahoo group still exhisted! Doh!

I\'ve entered once or twice and have been meaning to enter more regularily, but things have been coming in the way. The competition from other competitions is one reason (for basically the same reasons Peter mentioned). Also, I\'ve been doing a lot of work for Wyrd miniatures and I don\'t feel right about using those for competing with for a number of reasons. I will continue to have the ambition to enter (and hopefully I will every now and then), but I can\'t promise anything.

I dont think anyone is asking for promises, but purely by the nature of this post, it is going to increase awareness of the competition which is a good thing.

I merely wanted to point out that my post wasn\'t a promise to enter. :) But, I\'ve got a little something on my desk right now that I might enter unless I screw something up on it.

Maybe people aren\'t entering because they don\'t want to do the write up. I like the idea, but some people can be a bit lazy about stuff like that.

This really is a great contest. I used to enter it whenever I had a finished mini to put up. Haven\'t recently because I haven\'t finished anything in months...

You don\'t have to be a GD winner to enter. The feedback you can get from some really good painters is helpful, and its just plain fun.

Yeah, there are no prizes awarded, but so what. I dare any one of you to claim that you don\'t already have too much lead laying around unpainted....come on I double dog dare you.... :D

The Master Class thing kind of put me off for a while too, but its really not an elitest group...trust me...if they\'ll let me and Darthfoley in how elite can it be (no offense Darth)....

I really think it would help if Zaphod would post again here in the forums (I think he left during one of the forums more \"disagreeable\" times).... or at the very least, update the Golden Toadstool Gallery with the latest winners to bring some attention back to them. No images have been added to it since Oct.1, \'04. I realize Zaph may have gotten mad at CMON way back when, but if he wants to to promote it, then he should be casting his hook into the pond with the most fish, so to speak.

Has anybody spoken to Zaph recently?

???

The write-up doesn\'t have to be that ambitious. It\'s generally enough to list the colours you\'ve used or focus on one thing to describe, although, of course, the more information you give the better for everyone.

You\'re being modest Darth. You haven\'t painted anything below a 7.5 in years.

p.s. ZaPhOd is around. He just posted in the snakes on a plane/bad movie thread.

Ahoy mateys!!!!

I am surprised and pleased at botht he start of this thread as well as the conversation surrounding it!!!

I would like to make a couple of quick points here.

First, there really is no affiliation with the Masterclass Yahoo Group aside from a place to discuss entries and the winner is and has always been posted there. It has a vast membership and since I am a moderator, I can send the e-mails out mentioning the voting and winners. Of course, this hasn\'t really done much of late so this connection could realistically dissappear without a problem.

Secondly, I am revamping some of the rules and ideas as we speak. The Fungal Growth was very fun, but it was getting increasingly difficult for the secret panel to track people\'s entries and progress, and with many personal issues and time consuming things going on, that part of the contest slowly fell away. This could change with perhaps a discussion format of picking a winner, and I would be more than willing to go that route.

Third, I, myself, have been incredibaly busy with many things, from yard renovations, to baseball and even my political writings have taken much more time now. When I have little interest in painting, it is hard to find interest in promoting my contest :) This should change soon, as I am getting the painting bug back (also known as a relapse of Figmentia since there is no permanent cure of course!!!).

So what next? Well I am going to be reworking a few rules and ideas... We could easily rid the masterclass label by having a monthly discussion here. Perhaps Chern would be willing to make a subsection of the forum just for it (I alone cannot do every bit of promoting and management). I love what Terry did at EO and intend to keep the gallery and archives there and at Tony\'s Painting Clinic. There help has been fantastic since this started over 4 years ago now (yeah it has been THAT long!). Having a monthly thread here would be great for discussion as well as having a poll where YOU, the painters, could actually pick the Fungal Growth winner.

Another big issue is prizes. I loved what Reaper did. The little blister packed \"Golden Toadstools\" and \"Fungus patches\" were awesome prizes. Sadly, the communication level was no where near what I hoped between myself and them though, and I grew weary of trying to placate winners who had not received prizes. Prizes are always nice, but as someone said, we all have more lead than we could ever paint. And the MAIN goal of the contest has always been more educational.

I am, obviously, listening however, when people do mention helping with sponsorship.

Thanks for the support! I will get back when I have some input and updated rules etc... Feel free to offer suggestions :)

You guys (and gals especially) are great!

I went ahead and entered, first time in ages. I used to be a regular participant, but got away from painting regularly and never felt I had anything worthy of entering for a long time. To be honest though, it was never about a chance at winning - I learned alot from the other painters\' comments on my entries. I even won the Fungal Growth Award at one point. Hopefully the contest can be revived and serve the same useful purpose it did in the past!

well, im interested. ive never taken part in a contest before, and the time is nearing. unfortunately i am terribly lazy too...

i agree that more promotion would help a great deal, the easier all of the info is to find, the more likely it will be that i will expend the energy to click the mouse the few times necessary to submit the mini i was painting anyhow.

i also have a strong feeling that things will pick up after the summer slump. the hobby always takes a hit when cute girls are wearing barely mdest scraps of cloth. i can see them from the window of my fortress of solitude and it is detrimental to my painting time.

It is a good comp to enter as a first one because you get some really valuable suggestions and critique.

I know I dont support it as much as I should but I will try (I say that a lot though... )

Well some news already! I have been discussing the possibility of having a forum section here at CMoN devoted to the contest to discuss and ask questions etc. and he thinks it is a cool idea. We can move the discussion and announcement parts from the Yahoo group and keep the actual entries at Electric Ocean. The winners can again be posted here as well...

I am thinking this will be a great way to get the community involved in picking the monthly growth winner as well, as we can have a poll built right into the contest thread.

Let\'s keep those fingers crossed :D

I just never finish minis on time... so I don\'t enter many contests. The last Chick Challenge where I had two entries finished on time was a gross anomaly, believe me!

NSA - You can enter the contest when your mini is finished. It could take you ten months, as long as you enter the same month as you finish it :p

No more excuses LOL!!!!
