Scandinavia in the Golden Demon

Hi everyone.

The european Golden Demons (especially UK) have mostly been won by people from UK, Spain, Italy, France, Germany and Poland (sorry if I missed someone). But in the last few years people from scandinavia have begun to win demons too. The most known is probably Jakob Nielsen, with two slayer swords, 14 demons and 1 open competiton cup.

Last UK GD a lot of scandinavians won demons. Jakob Nielsen won one silver and one golden demon, Rune Kappel and Tue Kaae from denmark both won silver, Linus Ahlin-Sellgren from sweden won gold in youngbloods and Torstein Gude from norway won silver in youngbloods.

Do you think that scandinavia ever will be on the world map of miniature painting?

Well, as you\'ve pointed out, Scandinavia has some really amazing painters (Jakob Nielsens work in particular being consistenly great).

I think Scandinavia is very firmly on the world map of miniature painting. What it lacks, however, is its own Games Day/Golden Demon. Does Scandinavia have a lot of GW stores?

They\'ve been on the scene for years. JRN once told me that there used to be a joke at the eavy metal studio that you had to be from Nothern Europe to work there. I can imagine the amusing sign -

\"You don\'t have to be Scandinavian to work here, but it helps!\"

Nope, only two stores in Sweden (Stockholm and Göteborg). I would guess that Norway and Denmark have one store each in their capitals. But there are plenty of independent retailers who stock miniatures.

There has been a number of great painters from scandinavia in eavy metal team.. (Torben Schnoor, Kim Syberg, Jonas Ekestam..etc.) and right now there are a couple, and I think there are some more up the pipeline.

I would honestly say that the quality of our local gamesstore would probably compete with anyone else in the world. I\'m hoping Martin Sahlin (local) will enter this years GD for example. He won back in 2003. I could mention a few more from Umeå. Nils (Quadrille on these forums). Anders (incredible neat painter), Axel who\'d probably placed in youngblood last year had he entered. And me :) there are a few more too.. I don\'t remember their names. And sebastian is moving up here as well! :D

I\'m really hopeful! :D

And don\'t forget you\'ve got a great number of talented Historical and also AFV modellers over there.

Obviously Mike Blank is a talent to be reckoned with, but have you seen Joachim Lindman and his Pagan Art Miniatures line? Some beautiful historical sculpts.

That may be the problem then. If its the same everywhere as in the UK, GDs are staffed by GW store staff. So if there aren\'t many stores, they would probably struggle to organise a GD over there

GD is way out of my league, but seeing some of the stuff being done here in Copenhagen, Scaninavia is most definitely on the map.

Don\'t forget Mikkel Nyboe in Copenhagen.

The Norse have conquered the western world once, can\'t see any problems with that happenning again!lol

On a side note Umeå painters can even be seen on swedish national TV every week (Göran in \"HCZ\" :) )

Just submitted my entry for 40k single at the GG today. I\'ll go back to Oslo tomorrow to see how the local finals go. I\'ll take a lot of pic of the entry, which I will post here and on the forum site of the norwegian warhammer forum: www.norskwf.com all scandinavians are welcome by the way to join our forum.

I\'ll also post pics of my entry as soon as i get it back. took som priliminary photo\'s before i entered today. Didn\'t turn out that good. Here\'s one:

(BTW He\'s blind. I didn\'t forget his eyes!)
I hope that Scandinavia will get it\'s own GD, but i don\'t think there are enough GW stores to organize it. The closes we get at the moment is GD Germany.

I have plans of going to GD UK 2006, just for fun. And to see for my self how good the best actually are. Maybe even enter myself, just for fun lol
