Hi all, a project I am currently working on :

Battle - damaged Dreaders ! I have called him Scar for now ! What I would really like is suggestions on how to paint his cables, painting cables is not something I enjpy at the best of times and this guy has a lot of cables ! lol Thanks !

i find the quickest easyest way is to paint the cable black then dry brush with a light dusting of boltgun metal if you are doing smooth pipes try getting several different shades of silver don to a dark grey and paint on thin lines changing the colour every time then a wash with a really weak diluted solution of the dark grey over the top

Paint boltgun metal.

Undiluted wash of Griffon Sepia
50/50 diluted wash of Delvian Mud
75/25 wash of Badab Black - try to put just in the recesses. Potentially repeat the Badab.

Sometimes I will also rub my finger along the highlight area while the wash is drying to remove some of the paint and have the metal show through.

That\'s my new quick recipe for metals that I find works really well. The sepia and mud add some nice warmth and colour to the metals while still leaving them silver/steel looking.

Great, thanks for the advice both of you, I find painting cables quite tough at times. By the time I had read your messages I had already painted them, and I am quite pleased with how they turned out. I will post some WIP\'s a bit later. Cheers both of you !

Here is a quick WIP update, been a LOOOONG days work! Quite pleased with how it\'s turning out though: By the way, sorry about the dark pictures, best I could do right now ! Cheers

Comments and ideas most welcome ! As you can see, the Necron has just been blasted by the Multi-melta, so I am going to paint the Green Stuff like fire and molten metal once cured.

Lol that\'s true alright! Here is a quick update, made a start on washing the flames, these will have a very watered down orange wash applied next, then some more washes of varying colours/consistency. I have also added some gauss damage to the dreaders left arm and some other details on him. What I really would like to do is OSL the necron, this will be tough - I have only tried OSL once before and it came out ok, but not perfect. As always, comments most welcome ! Cheers !

Hi Cassar, that snow is just GW\'s snow flock. I applie it in a few thin layers rather than one large one. cheers!

I am not quite sure about the flames, I am not sure they really look like flames. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I am thinking that maybe I ought to sculpt some more \"licked\" flames, if that makes sense !

the beams of fire are very straight looking if i were you i\'d sculpt small flames coming off the beams getting larger towards the necron and licking around the melted surface, possibly drips falling from the bottom of the beas again near the target take alook on you tube for flame thrower tanks in action it might give you some ideas, also on coolmini try \"the most viewed\" on the gallery theres a killer can getting the melta treatment

How did you create the gouges and scars on the armor? Did you actually cut on the mini, or is it all a paint effect?

THanks cassar, that piece with the kan is amazing, I will never be able to create something like that lol. I will work on the melta beams though, you are right, they are too flat and then abruptly burst into flame ! CreganTur, I literally got a knife to the dreader and cut him up lol I wish I could paint to that effect! Cheers all!

you never know till you try, what do you use to sculpt, im a big fan of milliput all the scratchbuilt stuff i\'ve done is made from it, the most recent is on the forums here wip scout marine biker all milliput, if you use a candle and heat up a pin or a craft knife blade it can do pretty convincing slashes and bullit holes.

Predominantly I use green stuff actually. Although I have used milliput in the past and found it excellent. In reality though, I don\'t sculpt a lot - its something I find very hard !

lol they are cool! The dreader is excellent - did you sculpt those two ? With milliput ?

Great work so far. However I feel like the dread is missing something but I cannot figure it out. Freehand maybe? or something that draws more attention to the dread.
