Scenario Contest

How many of you have submitted a scenario for the contest? What sort of feedback (if any) do you get for the submissions? What format do you use? Just the map photo and text describing the scenario or do you try no format it to make stand out?

Ive been thinking about trying to submit something but haven't out the time into it yet.

I submitted a mission a week or so ago, but so far I haven't heard any word (I assume it was rejected). No idea if they ever send you a "Sorry, try again" email or anything, but it would be a nice gesture. As for what I did, I went all out:

1) Designed map using the Mapeditor tool
2) Wrote objective/special rules
3) Playtested
4) Revised map layout & rules
5) Repeated steps 3-4 a few times
6) Wrote background story
7) Photoshopped "mission" page
8) Emailed mission text, map image/file, and "mission sheet" JPEG

I also included a explanation into my reasons behind the mission beyond what was described there. I would suggest your best bet is to check the missions already posted on the GG site and then come up with something unqiue. Until we get the new content the number of ideas (ways to mix-match map tiles) is becoming scarce if you're trying to create a unique look to your map.

I submitted a mission late November. it was designed as a christmass based scenario (enter a mall and find toys for children) and hpoed it would be published in December. Unfortunately it hasent been published :(

I did get a reply that they had recived my submission.

I dont think they send out: Sorry we didnt use/accepted your mission emails. But they do state on their homepage taht they keep submitted missions so it could be posted later on.

I think the most important things to include are the .map file from the map editor, a 'back story' for the mission, and clear, well written, scenario objectives and special rules (if any).

Creating a fancy photo-shopped entry is probably not necessary, as I imagine they simply use the .map to create a .png, and take that and your story, rules, and objective, text and just paste it into their own template and do the layout.

Also, I inquired about how the competition works back when it was first announced and the reply I got back stated that entries 'carry over' - so even if you don't get selected in the week you send the entry in it does not mean you won't get selected ever.

Agreed. Just look at published missions for examples as to how the objectives and special rules should be worded. The MAP file is important.

True, I was just being "extra fancy", showing off how it might look as a final product, but I'm sure it has no real impact on whether they like your mission. Primarily I'm sure they're concerned with the mission's originality and "fun vs difficulty" factor.

Well that's good to know. Still, I'll hedge my bets by creating/sending more missions (once I've come up with something I feel is unqiue... again).
