Scenic base.. with water..

My highest ranked, and not even a mini!

Well this is a base for a mini i am currently painting, so keep a look out for the mini..

I scratchbuilt everything. The plinth is made from lego, the tree and roots from some roots, the grass is from woodland scenics and the other scatters are from hornby. The water effect is from delux materials and the leaf litter was collected from silver birch trees and dried.

My first time using resin water, i am pretty pleased with the results.

What are the leaves made from?

I do believe that they are birch seeds. Good job alex, but I think the overall colours are too dark and if you want to homogenize the base more, you really should trim and darken the reeds somehow, and the edge of the water effects is rounded

Looks really good. About the score, i think its because everyone just likes water effects!

I think bases and terrain is heavily underrated on CMON. Just the really supah-dupah-awesome-great-wowwwwww-terrain stuff is being awarded with a 9 or 8.

Ari, Ari, Ari, i know of your failed attemps at resin bases..

You are right though, birch seeds, although i dont think they are the actual seeds, more like the filler imbetween the seeds.


I agree about the grass, i just dont want to ruin it. if i had an airbrush i might try to paint them, but i just dont want to risk making it look crap.

I\'ve had some success with just painting grass with an ordinary brush. You\'d probably have to support it with your finger a bit if you wanted anything more than a very light brushing, mind.

yep, cool base for sure.

If I were to be putting a model on it, particularly if it wasn\'t going to tower over the base, I think I\'d have to trim some of the long grass somewhat, it\'s a little wild atm, and as a result it may not necessarily complement a miniature. After all, the base is there to show off the mini As such it may be worth doing that once the mini is attached to his superduperwaterandtreelitterbase.

Yeah I realise that now having just spent a while trying to find it.

It seems that some of us despite making the first PB event don\'t qualify for membership and have to ask to become members and until we became a member we can\'t view the albums of other members etc.

noone qualifies for membership automatically, you just have to pm an admin and you\'re in.

and while you\'re at it, c&c on mine wouldn\'t go amiss
