Scibor Dwarf King

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and advice in my thread in the WIP, and to the gang over on WAMP. Lots of fun on this mini. This was my lengthiest project to date, and the one I feel the most satisfied with so far. Except the prep work is REALLY an area I need to concenctrate on. Defo not enough time spent here!

Anyway, I took a bunch of suggestions on board for this guy. Lightened the face, the robe, added more shading along the base where it meets the slate and the fur where it meets the robe. Additional shading on the hammerhead (Which I didn't photograph, 'cause I'm an idiot like that) and some other tweaks that wouldn't have occured to me if I hadn't posted it first. Thanks gang!

Please let me know where I could have gone further on this mini. I am reall ylooking forward to pushing myself along this year and I have FINALLY discovered the joy of just painting, and not neccessarily racing to get a mini done. The process has become enjoyable to me. That's a cool thing.

A note on what this was painted for....

Brett (Posts as Darklord here and on WAMP) started an ENORMOUS event called the Little Angels charity auction. It's a painting contest too, with an enormous amount of prize stuff being scattered around. Lots of generosity from the mini community again! I strongly urge you to click on the link in my sig and consider taking part. Not only does everyone have a chance at winning something but it's a great cause and defo worthy of our support. And if you don't feel like entering, you can always "donate" by bidding on these auctions as they go up!

And again thanks to everyone for commenting on my painting. You've been helping me a great deal, and I look forward to more CC! TY Amigos!

Really nice dwarf. His face and the fur at the back are really nice. The metals are also pretty well done.

Nice one Sott, I'd have happily used this chap as my character figure in the last campaign. There really aren't enough pipe smoking dwarfs out there :D I saw him in the WIP & thought he was fine so of course now that you're done I've spotted something I'm unsure about  The top plane of the pipe bowl is very clean rather than charred/tarry & there's no yellow/brown staining on his moustache! Inconsequential of course but if i type it out loud (as it were) it might help me to remember for my own stuff in the future :D

I hope he raises a cracking amount for LA & that you win a prize, it'd be well deserved :good:

Cheers, B.

TY guys. Good point about the pipe, I just didn't really know where to go on it. I was hoping for a little better score on it (Dont we always!) so I'd really love to hear more of the negatives on it, so I can keep going.

Thanks again!

I paint my thumb.
Well, I'd say he has the face of a dwarf who just got him a brand new pipe ;)
Surely a gift from his niece on his 333rd anniversary.

Already commented twice on him, so you know where I stand. He has a sort of 'muted' charm to him, which I like, but doesn't do much for scoring here ( I know about it.)
Only big crit on him is the feathery helm which, especially on side view, looks somewhat messy and undefined.

You're righto about those feathers. In hindsight, why didn't I just paint them up as feathers? Might have been a good spot to add some color, and for sure could have made them look a little better?

I tried to act on your suggestion for cleaning them up some by just shading them deeper and highlighting a little. Didn't do much to the end result though. Thanks very much for the honesty. Much appreciated amigo!
