Scibor\'s Monstrous Miniatures

GreenOne

I paint my thumb.
These are not GW minis bill...

Well, obviously, there is some toying around with the IP here, but nothing worth calling ripoffs imo. After all, who can blame them if anyone use SMM\'s Dwarf lord instead of GWs Dwarf lord ( For a much lower price might I add.) .

Scibor already was an industry before that; congrats on taking the next step:D Cool way to make it into this world and using what\'s at your reach.

Ooh, that power arm is skirting the edge... especially putting a flange on the shoulder pad like that. Cheeky! Watch your sixes, guys. Though I doubt any C&Ds will fly over something like that...

I\'m not trying to stir up a discussion again. I\'m not pointing fingers or even claiming I know anything concerning the legal stuff here.

I don\'t think the issue is if the powerfist was litterally copied or even worse mouldpressed. I believe you there. It\'s about it reminding strongly of a powerfist from gw even if it\'s 100% new sculpted. It\'s GW IP that\'s to be worried about.
So it\'s more a discussion about where does public domain stop for imaginary and where does legally binding IP start. I guess this will always be a vague line and in the eye of the beholder (or the eye of the lawyer with the most influence/people with the most money). We likely never will get a clear answer on this, and we could fill books with discussions about it and still don\'t know rules and clear borders written in stone concerning it.

How generic is a powerfist, generic for everyone to use, or is is so GW specific you can\'t. Like I said before.. I don\'t know. If I never ever saw a powerfist and needed to design one... how different would it have looked from the gw one with only my own idea\'s to guide me? Probably rather simular on some places (as I would have taken a midevil platearmour gauntlet and would have sci-fi-ed it up... like the GW looks like to me). So when is something logical (like I don\'t see anyone IP-ing orcs as a race) and when is it specific? Fact is GW imaginary is so damn well known that it\'s easy to put the links. So making anything that strongly looks like GW might be walking on thin ice. I personally would steer away from it just to be sure. But I might be overly cautious.

I dunno, why put something that looks like (is almost identical to) a power fist, on there at all?

These are different from the previous conversions as they are presented as a new line of minis. But they seem to be alternatives to models in GW\'s lines - The Dwarf lord is not so much a problem as there are a lot of dwarf ranges, but on the other hand it is very much in the GW style. The Servitor however is very specific.

Just seems strange to me, you guys obviously have a lot of talent, so why not come up with something brand new and shiny ???

My grandad had a fox-terrier like you Artemis - once it bit, it never let go! Made for a highly amusing weekend over at Frothers. Especially the ball-pointed gonad pic......

I didn\'t really care so much with the obviously press moulded space marines stuff - people wanna pay over the odds for stuff then fair enough.

Starting a miniature line and mass producing is taking the michael though. The dwarf, servants and guy on the orcs back all have the same head.

People wanna buy them, again that\'s their decision. Just wanna make sure he doesn\'t change forums and leave the views of others behind him.

Yes we saw it. We also laughed at how inferior they were to the obviously pirated Games Workshop heads you have on the other items.

Sculpt us up a non-bald, non-grim, non-space marine looking head and even then you\'ll just be a press-moulder trying to pass other people\'s work off as your own who has learned how to sculpt in the meantime. Nice job description.

The ones with the red outlines are the new heads that were done to prove he totally sculpted the others from scratch.
