Score deflation

Is it just me or have other folks noticed that the average scores on the miniatures have been dropping? I\'m seeing a lot more 4-5 scores than I used to. Now I could be wrong but I get the impression that figures that would probably have gotten a 8.0- 8.5 a year ago are now getting a 7.0-7.5. If true, I suspect its because we are getting better as a group. Any one else notice this?

Scores are relative. With the increasing number of fantastic artwork we keep seeing here, what used to look amazing may only be \"above average\" now. Yes, I think it\'s because this site is attracting better artists, and collectively everyone else is improving. The bar keeps getting higher and higher.

I think its because half the people on here wont give anything higher then a 6 no matter how nice it is. I have seen some work on here that would make people pass out and in comes the standard 6 \"Not bad, I would have done a 15th highlight though\"

I always seem to get my best scores in the first 50 votes, and then they trend downwards. I\'ve had some minis up here for a long time, and they seem to lose a .1 every few months. Kinda odd.

I said it before, I\'ll say it again, scores will deflate due to selfish people but in the end they\'ll even out. It\'s just matter of not caring too much. I mean, so people may not like your own stlye or the lighting\'s off, so what? Until we get VR internet no one can see your mini as it actually is unless they go over to your house and pick it up. So long as you\'re satisfied yourself, that\'s all that matters.

I was kind of meaning this as a compliment to the group in general. There are a lot of better painters posting here now. And when you start seeing incredible pieces posted regularly the \"only excellent\" become a little less noteworthy. But it\'s good to see what others come up with. Raises the bar so to speak. I know it\'s helped my painting.

This has been discussed before but, votes on comments don\'t count toward the final score and A LOT of people don\'t bother/forget to move the counter from the standard 6. That is why you see a lot of comments on drop-dead gorgeous models that appear to only rate a 6. After you have recorded your comment you have to vote again to register your true rating of the model. Confusing, but it\'s the best way. Other threads will explain why.
