Scott vs Blood Bowl

A couple guys here in town are trying to get a little blood bowl action going. Great! Gives me a reason to paint up the scads of these figs I got laying aorund. Here\'s the start. Team colors are red and white (The Gouged Eye classic colors!). It\'s a crap pic, but here\'s some fleshtones I am proud of. I am more than happy to vary the skin form model to model so fire any crit\'s you got. Pic IS crap, but my goddamn light tent should be here any goddamn minute now. Shop eBay and save my EYE!

Better pics needed, can\'t make out much but interested to see where you go with this. Been contemplating getting a couple of the newest human BB figs since I\'m a huge NFL fan.

Cheers,

Ok! looking good, on the guy with the completed base, Id go maybe even a little bit higher on the highlights and on the guy to the left with the armor, if the armor isnt done already, more hoghlights on the armor would go a long way. also add a little color into that model somewhere considering that it is blood bowl and all. however all in all, very orky, very nice.

Thanks for the comments BackStabbeth. The one on the left has only the chainmail and the flesh worked on. Everything else was just primed black, then painted quickly by brush with VMAC black.

The one on the right is done, for better or for worse. Got more to do so I will take all comments and crit\'s onto the rest of the team.

Thanks again!

I paint my thumb.
Yeah, it\'s a bit better like that, pics are also better :p
Maybe you could mix some warmer tones in the highlights, subtly, maybe it more \'alive\'.
Never did orc skin though, so I\'m just guessing.

Great to see some Blood Bowl on here. I have a Dwarf team that\'s cleaned and assembled begging for paint....one day...lol.

Anyhow, on to the minis, I agree with previous comments. Just bring the highlights up a bit more overall, especially on the red and green. Don\'t be afraid to go a bit over the top with the highlights. After all they are orcs, and it is fantasy football.

Will be looking forward to seeing the whole team done, may inspire me to start on my dwarfs. :)

So the finished Lineman only score a 5.5. A little dissapointing but waddaya do? Onwards and upwards.

Got my light tent today and a new airbrush so I am excited to keep going on these guys. Thanks for all the encouragement guys!

Generally, I think the reason is the highligts and shadows need a broader range. the reds dont look highlighted or shaded and the armor only slightly so. Id say go nutz with em (not to pure white or anything but you know) and if they end up too high, knock em down a bit. My painting style really has be goin too far one way, then too far the other then fixing everything with midtone washes until its just right. its like a tug-of-war until then tho.
If you are paiting a whole team and dont want to go nuts on single minis i honestly think these look very good. but if you are going for the display effect, you are very much on the right track, its just a matter of the amount of layers you do. the skin is the star of the show here, and on the lips, they are catching so much light that a higher contrast between the edge of the lip and surrounding area might do well. finally, i fancy photo of them is gonna go a long way to upping that score.

anyway, I think it looks good, everything here is done right, it could just use more i think. again, it depends on wether they are display or play.

They look good to me so far Scott. I imagine the low score on the lineman is because the red and white don\'t look like they have been shaded and/or highlighted very far. That\'s probably not the case, but that\'s what it looks like in the picture. Better quality pictures once your light box is set up will probably help lift your scores. Regardless, I think he looks good. I\'d be proud to call him my own.

What colour paints did you use for the Orc skin out of interest. I\'m currently painting up an Orc Blood Bowl team myself so I\'m interested in seeing what colours others are using.

Olaf - the colors are a basecoat of Catachan green with a follow up of a thraka green wash. Startted the highlights with Catachan green:Desert yellow in about 5 different stages. I put a thinned wash of leviathan purple wash, about 1:1 on after the last two stages. I also worked the purple deeper into the knuckles and any scars. Here\'s a better pic that shows a little more of the work...

Thanks guys!

Green looks really nice on this. Although I think the red can be taken up a notch just to make it \"pop\" more.

Also don\'t worry about the score on that single one just yet. Wait till you have the whole team done and then post it for voting. I think if you keep the quality on the whole team where it is now it should rate at least a 7.

Really makes me want to start working on my dwarfs, keep at it and I may have to. :p
