Scott vs. Morphus

YAY! I painted this model for a challenge vs. AlexTheArtist. It got the best score I\'ve ever gotten and I\'d like to post it under my own name. I\'m proud of it, though there are TONS of flaws. Steel metal looks like crap, for starters. Anyway, thanks to Alex for the challenge, and please give me any feedback or crits you\'ve got. This was my best effort and it was only possible from the great feedback of the forum members. please continue to help me improve!

I\'m overwhelmed that it scored an 8.1 at 50 votes. Hooray! But please LMK what to improve and how!

Hi Scott,

I won\'t presume to give advice yet but overall I like the muted tones and the grey/green armour. As u say maybe the axe lets it down a little as the other metals fit in quite well with the look.

Anyway great stuff

cheers

I agree the axe is craptacular. I just hit a blank when I painted that. It was the last thing I did. The metal is juist awful on that axe. I continue to struggle with metalics. Practice! TY Queeg!

Wow scott, that looks real nice. Good colors, nice contrast on the fur, and great moody paintjob. True the axe is not that great, but i\'m quite impressed with the brass.
Well done, and congrats on showing Alex who\'s boss :D

I love the palette of colours you chose, it works well. I think you just needed either an extra level of shading or highlights to give it more depth. I really like how the hair came out. Good job

Don\'t try too hard on the next one mate, maybe the one after that. lol

Thought it was a worthy winner of the challenge.
Liking the armour but think the gold / brass in particular is the most impressive bit.

I think it\'s because the paint-off participants and readers went to vote on it, while the \'regular\' submission got submitted to the regular crowd.

personally i htink its higher than a 7.0 but thats just me. anyway i agree with a broader range of each color you are using would really help to make the mini pop!

well done

Thanks again. It\'s not so much the score (sitting at 7.2, that\'s a fine score for me) It\'s just that it WAS up at 8.1 for a while under a different name. My goal for the year was to get a single mini up over 7.5, and I had that plus some. Now.... ah well. Thanks for the input as always. Next one!

Hey scottie! Dont damn the metals to hell! The gold is really looking on this miniature, well played! But yeah the contrast on the armor is a little low, your shadows arent really showing except for the helmet, if i was going to vote on it it would be in the 7.5-8 catagory, the mood is awesome!

The base could have gotten one of these plinths and more dirty dark forest in it... but i think the base works (Hell, im happy if i can have sand on mine after painting the damned thing!)

The axe and the contrast on the armor is whats letting it down, otherwise i like it!

Ah dont worry about the scores too much mate, my Tiger went from 8.7 over nite to 8.2 with only a couple of new votes so u can see what was voted there !!! Improving and being happy with the result is by far more important and theres some great advice givin out here for that!

cheers
