NOTE BEFORE HAND: This is the WIP log taken from my many posts on another forum, so where there is introductory text is just the seperate posts, there were others in between some but I felt they were not neccissary.

Hope you enjoy, any C&C are welcome!

Ok, here are some WIP shots of the new project that I have suddenly had the inspiration to do (after playing Nids recently I want more! And I love the big guys! - Hmmmm Army centre piece) A scratch build Tyranid Trygon.

Trygon Head - this is almost done, just needs soem extra details added inside mouth and on bottom of chin, as well as the five carapace plates sculpted onto his head.
Used the tusked fex head to get the jaw and eye sections, as well as the neck, apart from that the details have been made with milliput (white) and greenstuff (duh, green).
Guardsman shown for scale:

Trygon Body, Have started to add details over the basic structure...
I have used home made casts to make copies of the carapace sections and the Carnifexes rib cage section out of greenstuff, worked quite well but they need touching up:

Body and head:

Misc Parts:

Tail Structure - obviously at this point only the basic shape:

Hope you like it, please comment and add crit, I need this to stay enthused about such a large project! (this guys is huge!)

Ok guys, thought an update was in order...

Have now pretty much finished work on the body, was going to add those spore things onto the back by using either barbed strangler or deathspitter barrels...

The head now has all the carapace sections done, as well as the sculpting of the inside of the mouth/under the chin (done after pic was taken) So just a little more detail work around the mouth to blend this in properly and this part is also done.

I haven\'t done anything to the tail secton yet, so this is the next step! (I am not looking forward to the number of carapce sections ill have to sculpt there...
On the tail, How do you guys think it should be done? the FW model has carapace wrapped right around the tail all the way to the tip... Not sure i like this as much as the more \"ravenor\" look, with carapace ending shortly after the body (like Laurie\'s LAIUS Horror), and possibly adding spiked blades down each side...

UPDATES!!!! :D

Here are some pics of the modelling completed!
I am open to any suggestions from anyone to minor tweeks, but other than anything people may bring up, i\'m very happy with the result!

Thank you to all who commented on this thread and let me know your thoughts and keeping me inspired throughout! Sometime in the (hopefully) not too distant future there will be a painting thread on this monster!

Great sculpt, the tail looks awfully smooth comparing to the rest of the body though..

Would be interesting to see how that monster would actually move itself forward, looks a bit top-heavy.

great sculpt....
but i have to agree with boyd
with all the upper body detail the tail looks very plan..
i would add some carapace detail to the back and maybe some scales on the bottom.
great mini & can\'t wait to see paint on it!

cheers:beer::beer:

you do some very nice sculpting.
cant wait til its painted looks very nidish (is that a word). instead of added more detail to the tail maybe have a nice base of destruction.
lots of detail. just a idea.
again good work.
:D

Seeing as its one of the burrowing beasties, could you just give up on the idea of doing anything with the tail end,and make him coming up out the ground, big burst out of earth etc.

Well I see it being very similar to a snake, extreamly strong with movement attained through flexing that tail... The pose he\'s in I see as a rearing action, like he\'s about to come down to strike.
Also, nothikng stopping him from moving allong with those 6 scything arms as additional support! :D

I am also planning on adding additional \"spikey bitz\" to the tail section and possibly extending teh back carapace a little further, problem is im trying to convey the idea that this thing is actually quite lyth and able to move quickly, with too many carapace sections along the tail it would look too bulky and restricted... What are your thoughts guys? I am open to any ideas!

I\'d just add some sections to the tail, like you see on the body of actual snakes (And worms lol) to show the muscle sections and their peristaltic action ;)

(Is it still called peristaltic if it\'s not to do with digestion?)

I have to say im unsure...:drunk:

I am also scared to try that, if its not done really well it will look strange, also I am yet to see a Nid with the segmented bits on the underside of a tail (both versions of ravenours certainly don\'t)

So, how would this be done well?

great model here...only thing i would do is clean up some moldlines on his upper arms and some random bitz here and there...would be a shame coming across moldlines when you start painting this beast :)

Haha hell no, i\'m aware they are there, I haven\'t cleaned teh arms at all yet, they were just there to give an impression mate! :D

I ALWAYS remove all mould lines, they s**t me! :p
