ScratchBuilt shrike (ravenguard)

HowdyHowdy!
Recently I've decided to begin my adventures into marines, and originially i intended to play black templar, but upon looking through the codex, i realized it was less liek the army i would liek to play. I was looking at the secondary chapters and realized that would be awesome to play ravenguard, lots of speed and with the IA character, assault marines as troops.
Regardless though, i do liek the gw shrike model, but i would really liek my model to be a little cooler.

I intend to scratch build it with these distinct features:
-Raven wings instead of a jump pack
-dynamic pose (as is my self appointed trademark)
- maybe dive / flying forward
-talons on both hands (lightning claws)
-more prominent beak helmet

I will try to have concept art up soon, but let me know what you think, i can sculpt pretty well at 50mm models, but this will be my first fullsculpt of a 25mm.

your looking at the wrong codex. for what ever reason, gw stopped assault marines being able to be troops in this edition of the codex, i know because id started a raven guard army for this codex, then it came out.....and you couldnt take assault marines. sorry to be the bearer of bad news. you could always use them with the blood angels codex, but the red thirst/black rage isnt fitting with their fluff. you could use them as dark angels with an all biker army, but as you can do that with codex chapters it seem pointless

Ah, it's true that in the SM codex one is unable to take assault marines as troops, but using the Imperial Armor character (name is escaping me) his rule is exactly that. Most small tournies and all fun games will allow this :D and im not that competitive so im not too worried about not being able to play in gt's etc

the scourge wings are great, and should fit onto a marine without too much hassle, although you'll probably need to jig about with the junction where they join the marine himself. Also, as I understand the fluff, Korvydae doesnt actually have wings so much as a jump pack. Creative license is all fine and good, but you might want to make sure he's got some kind of jump pack looking thing going on too, so the wings are clearly intended as more of an adornment than a set of functional body parts. Not an actual marine jump pack, though, as it's so big and chunky the wings would look rather puny. Maybe a regular marine backpack but with a couple extra nozzles on it or something?

With regards to the ongoing 'dex discussion: you're right - Korvydae allows assault marines to be used as troops. The Blood Angels dex is fine and all, but they aint raven guard. Too much black rage and whatnot going on (although they do have all those funky baal variant tanks, which would make for a nice "sudden strike force" feel for an army.) Anyway, if you're just playing friendly games you should really be able to just make stuff up as you like, as long as youre doing it for reasons of fluff, rather than cheesy WAAC. As long as you let your opponent know in advance he/she should be fine with it. It's just a game, after all, which we play for fun :)
