Sculpting books?

I\'ve never seen a book on the subject, myself, but from watching special features sections on DVD\'s, I\'ve seen an awful lot of props are just using objects upside-down, or making minor alterations in things that already exist, or kit-bashing, for lack of a better term.

I seem to recall way back when something along the lines of waht you\'re after advertised in an issue of Fine Scale Modeler. I think that magazine has a website, I\'d give them a shot. It was a long time ago (Pre-CGI!) but I\'m sure there\'s gotta be something out there.
Failing that I\'d try doing a search and ask someone at one of the studios directly. Stan Winston studios, Weta Workshop etc. probably have a place to eMail them and I\'ve always been amazed at just how helpful people can be when you show interest in what they do.

What where you looking to do? I know of a magazine called \"Cinflex\" (not sure of the spelling as I cannot find a copy around) that goes into some specifics on three or so movies, usually ones that have just come out in the last couple of months. A bit on the pricey side but it has some interesting information on the how they do that.

I just ran accross a reptile clay sculpting book at my local craft store last week, I am not into sculpting so I didnt pick it up. If i can remember I will try to get some titles to post up for you

Books on sculpting generally will get you far, with the appropriate application on your part - \'if you can sculpt an orange you can sculpt an apple\' kind of thing.
About the industry and its development, saw this book recently and it\'s very inspiring: The Winston Effect: The Art & History of Stan Winston Studio. Doing the search for this in Amazon it highlights a bunch of other books on special effects and the industry that I\'ve never seen before that look like they\'d be worth having a look at.

I bought a book on sale last week for clay sculpting.
title: Making Miniature Villages in Polymer Clay
author: Gail Ritchey
The book was only 13$ on sale. I have never worked with clay before and I don\'t know if I want to start but it has some nice tips and ideas in making terrain.
You can apply it to the film industry in making a diorama miniature city to represent your area. they do this all the time in movies that involve major cities such as NY, chicago, or LA, or in fictional movies that have worn down villages etc.
It would not be time or cost effective to represent their entire village as a set like they did in the filming of troy
