Sculpting Classes in So Cal?

If you can\'t find any classes, I\'d recommend sculpting some larger scale things out of plasticine (half a foot tall or so) to get better. Studying with larger sculpts helps you understand how to create the shapes that you see and envision. It makes a huge difference. Don\'t worry about detail, just focus on getting the correct shapes and proportions of things. Do studies of hands, faces, etc. Lots of them. Once you understand how to work three-dimensionally it\'s much easier to apply that knowledge and shrink the size of your work, rather than trying to start small right away.
Plasticine is super cheap, and since it doesn\'t ever dry out you can keep reusing it. $5 for a block the size of a brick that has virtually unlimited use is a fantastic investment.

Couldn\'t you just do that?
With all the free tutorials and guides online, maybe getting a couple of books too, there\'s a heck of a lot you can do solo by immersing yourself and practicing lots. There\'s nothing like doing 30, 40 practice sculpts one after another to improve (both in terms of the quality of the finished result and how you got there, which isn\'t talked about much)!
