I have been trawling back through the forum and was looking at the references to the infamous \"chicken\" dragon. One comment that came up a fair bit was that it would have been cheaper to hire someone to sculpt a new version than it would have been to bid for an original on ebay (in the event that one even comes up for sale). So here goes with my question....

... does anyone know someone willing and capable of taking on a sculpt of that size?

if so...

how much would it cost?

(yes I know its not going to be cheap!!!!! you don\'t need to sound too much like my wife)

and finally, out of sheer bloody minded curiosity if something that size was to be cast are there others of you out there who would be interested in it?

I\'d be interested in scupting it, but when you\'d see the result I bet you wouldn\'t pay a penny xD What is this infamous chicken dragon of yours, and how big should it be?

Its an old citadel sculpt from the 1980s. At the time it retailed for about £80. One sold on ebay back in 2004 for $2000. Which probably makes it about the most expensive \"miniature\" ever (although pound for pound the Chris Fitzpatrick dark elf lord on foot probably out does them all). I love it because imo it looks like a proper dragon (as opposed to the long serpentine things that most manufacturers produce these days). Its nickname comes from the fact that it\'s about the size of an old chicken. Which is a hell of a lot of lead.

The only alternatives for a truely huge dragon seem to be:

Frankly, and no disrepect to the designers of both these miniatures, they just don\'t look as good as the classic chicken dragon. They are less solid looking and just don\'t fire my imagination in the same way.

The problem is that:

(a) the original never even comes up for sale on ebay and, if it did, it\'ll probably end up even higher than $2,000 by the time the serious collectors come out the woodwork; and

(b) no manufacturer is going to make something similar in this day and age as large models never sell in sufficient quantity (now there\'s a comment that\'s a hostage to fortune. no doubt Andy Foster of Heresy Miniatures would say otherwise!).

All of which leaves me with trying to \"bribe\" someone to take on a commission for a truely insane project. Of course the dynamic might change if enough people expressed interest in buying such a miniature. Perhaps even GW could be persuaded to dust off the old moulds and cast a few hundred more. Alternative perhaps Michael Perry could be tempted to have a crack at a new one?

In the meantime, I\'ll keep trawling ebay. You never know....

I would be willling to sculpt it, but it depends really on how much you are willing to pay. Would be a fun project nonetheless.

Trouble is I can remember when the \'Chicken\' dragon came out!!!!

I would really like to see a remake, but if there were too many produced, it would loose it appeal to collectors!

The Emperor Dragon was a pile of pooh! I still have a FF33 Great Fire Dragon.

bloody right! i have never seen one of these babies before but love it!! if had the cash, i definately buy one. probably the only dragon that i have seen that i would actually buy

OMG! That\'s huge!

You know... maybe a National Geographic or some other \"nature\" plastic model of a dinosaur could have a dragon conversion done on it. Don\'t know if the plastic could hold up under that much weight, but might start someone thinking.

A Python pet shop sketch just flashed through the above paragraph. Sorry.

i like wyrms but there seem to be less and less proper dragons. and there\'s nothing wrong with plastic - especially at that size!!

If the rumours I have heard are accurate, then the new dragon will be the best thing GW would have ever produced. Been informed that they also intend on releasing plastic baneblades and stompas.
