Sculpting & corks

I'm currently browing http://www.just-cork.co.uk for various sized corks for my sculpting and was wondering what the sculptors among you use? With tapered corks do you find it more comfortable to hold the cork any particular way up?

I'd been using 'used' wine bottle corks for some time before I was handed a box of bought corks (intended for fishing floats and bought in bulk). I like the consistency of bought corks and find those out of the bottle to either contain holes or be strange jaunty shapes!

I wanted some wider corks as I've not been satisfied by the result of taping two individual corks side by side! I've now ordered four tapered corks of differing sizes. I guess the tapered nature will give a greater variety of dimensions for me.

Well As I've said before the corks are a bonus to older (and slightly arthritics) hands.
Adding a small section of dowling or tubing to the bottom of the cork (small end up) also helps stop tired hands, doesn't need to be too long just the width of your plam at the knuckles should be about right.

I tried using a wine cork, but it was rubbish. Then again, I don't think it was a normal cork. It was like some synthetic variant.

I use old dried up GW paint bottles :rotfl:

Received my corks today (*oh the excitement!*) and quite pleased. The larger size and tapered shape is much more comfortable for my hands (like Dragonsreach I myself have issues with my joints). I got four different sizes, one of which is *massive* and will be great for larger scale polymer clay sculpts. Hurrah!

Yeah but you just have this key in your back thats so easy to wind up.
By the way you'll have to behave yourself on Saturday as Fran's with me, plus got a little goodie for you and Martyn.
