sausage shapes :p lol

What sort of scale are you after?
if you\'re wanting outspread fingers, best to sculpt your palm first and then use short, thin lengths of wire to support each finger :)

Scibor has some very handy tutorials for hands and feet. He recently added a 10-minute head sculpting article.

For separate fingers, you\'ll need a wire for each one. Brass wire will give you the required stiffness at the thinness needed, 26-28 gauge. If I\'m sculpting a fig with separate fingers, the entire arm will have the five wires going up into it, and I separate them at the end.

Start with the biggest parts, end with the smallest details. Do the hand itself with the thumb, and then the other fingers. I would recommend leaving time for the fingers to set individually.

Thanks a million, you have no idea how long I\'ve been trying to figure that out. I assume you twist them together and then fray the end as you say seperate them. That will work at 28mm? I started a new series of miniatures that are heroic 28mm and not like my old school stuff. I want a few with seperated fingers.

if you want splayed fingers, very thin wire is the way to go. i have tried it and it works but it is uber fiddly!

Have you tried to twist them together and then split the 5 apart at the ends? I think that would work very well considering I never could get the wires to stay in place when that small.

Yes, twisting them together. It works best (most stable) if it\'s something you plan for and build into the original armature. It may work for a normal sized 28mm figure, but it would probably need to be on the beefy side (big hands).
