sculpting fire

What is the best way to sculpt fire using green stuff? I\'m trying to make some flames on a pyre, about 20-30mm tall and 20mm diameter. Right now, I have a cone of GS as a base for the flame, but I don\'t know how to put in the detail. Any suggestions?

The Games Workshop site did on article on sculpting fire a while back that you might find useful:

http://us.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/painting/fire/default.htm

Just ignore the part about painting the fire, where they put the darker colors in the deepest parts and the lightest colors on the high points. Well, don\'t ignore it; just do the reverse. ;)

If you wanna try and make translucent fire, you could try scenic water or even PVA (If not too tall) mixed with a yellows/reds (Don\'t bother to mix them that much - the swirling effect makes it look more realistic...

Mind you - the water effects is expensive!! :p
