Sculpting fur like Forgeworld

Hi, I was wondering how FW sculptores sculpted the fur on the Rhinoxes.
To sculpt hair and fur, I usually use the \"sausage technique\", but I big miniatures, like rhinoxes, I don\'t think such technique would be as effective as in smaller miniatures.

Does anybody know how it is done?

thanx in advance

(if this has been delt before, I apologize. I have searched the forum, but didn\'t find anything that answered my question).

cheers

I haven\'t seen the figures you mean - can you give a link...?

An idea strikes me though:
Maybe they pressed actual fur (Or some sort of synthetic substitute) onto the curing area...?

It certainly looks impressive, all matted like :D I have no idea how that would be achieved though.

Well I dunno if it COULDN\'T be achieved by normal fur sculpting...

Looks to me as though it\'s simply just a matter of layers ?

agreed. i would imagine that the fine detailing would be done after the putty had cured slightly

I\'m guessing the sausage method is rolling little bits of sausage to make the individual clumps and then texturing..

Seems a bit fiddly I would have thought the same effect could be achieved by cutting triangles into a layer of sculpting material and lifting these..?

I\'m guessing a thick layer(s) of gs. This is then scored in a criss cross diamond pattern with a sharp blade and allowed to cure for a short while. Then i would start from the bottom and work my way up. Pull the tip of the diamond egdes over the hairs below. Carry on doing this and keep some sort of wavy pattern. Before it fully cures i would add the extra details of the fur. Thats my guess. Not the best of descriptions but i hope it helps... :D

Edited: This is how i sculpted the fur on this conversion. I\'m thinking of starting it all again as i have a better idea of what I\'m doing now.
