Sculpting fur with greenstuff.

Does anyone know how to effectively sculpt fur with greenstuff? I\'m thinking of something like this, boar pelt from Scibor:

Now anyone could hack and slash with a tool or knife, but I wanted to know how it can look neat and uniform like this.

Which is cheating.

But I would say layering a nice think layer, nice and smooth, and then just slicing into it with a blade at odd angles would work.

There\'s really no secret to this or most other sculpting things that seem difficult if you\'ve never tried them - a certain knack helps but practice and experience are the two key things.

I doubt that it\'s done by a laser.. And bengoodall seems to be a cynical guy. Anywho, it really isn\'t too hard. I find if you just get, even a toothpick, or dentist tool, dab it in water, and make indentations, and pull it out, with some green stuff hooked to it. But first, spread out the GS in the shape of the pelt. If that\'s not easy to understand, I can try to rephrase it :drunk: I know that it\'s akin to mangled English.

Even the stuff the Scibor duplicates using laser-cut press molds, he still has to sculpt the first piece himself. And I doubt this was press-molded, it\'s not a shape that lends itself to the process. Scibor has given people perfectly legitimate reasons to come down on him negatively in the past, should they choose to do so, but that doesn\'t mean he should get slagged for things unnecessarily as well.

On topic, Ainu\'s advice is good stuff. What I\'d add is: when doing what he describes, start at the bottom of the pelt/body part/whatever and go across, working up the piece in rows. That way, as you\'re pulling the GS down and pulling it out a bit, you\'ll be pulling it over the top of the row below, which will give you the nice layered effect.

Also, the GW homepage (US or UK, dunno which, and I\'m too lazy to look it up) has a great tutorial about sculpting hair and fur, you might wanna give that a look. Something about convertsion jobs. Hope that helps.

Yeah, I found the GW one about filling gaps with GS fur on chaos hounds, wasn\'t that inspiring. On the other hand I found a good layering technique tutorial on the Ogre Stronghold website, credit goes to Corai:
