dorothy would be cool....
How about Dorothy holding on to her basket with Toto in it while a flying monkey tries to take it away from her?

I know it\'s not really easy but that way there would be plenty to go arround. It would probably have to be in 4 or 5 parts but it could be very dynamic.

Too bad I don\'t have a scanner, but I am working on some sketches, Dorothy vs. flying monkey looks great, but not sure if it can be done that easily :)

Hum ... when I first suggested that theme, I didn\'t think two people would go for it, but you never now ;). I think I have to give credit to Avicenna for reminding me of more light hearted themes than the usual wargame figs we can see arround here :

So when Tuubje said he had done some sketches, I thought I should give it a go so we could confront our ideas (Tuubje, just use your camera on the drawings, that\'s what I did, and it\'s faster than a scanner). But then that\'s when I realised that my idea isn\'t realisable if it ever was to be cast (too many parts and too many areas that could break) (bear with me, this was a quick sketch ;)) :

Tuubje please do post your sketches so that we can get another opinion on it.

Anybody else has another idea? (even if you\'re not participating in the sculpt, your opinion could be helpful :))

Dorothy? Why not. I\'ve already done four Alice in Wonderland figures this year so I\'ve got some practise. :) If we do this we should keep the scale similar to Steve\'s zO range so they are compatible.

I think that with the flying monkeys I\'d consider it between a moderate and difficult project. Difficult parts would be \"little girl\" proportions and the facial expression. Wings would just be a pain in the butt.
Here is a shematic on proportions and growth: http://www.fineart.sk/show.php?w=899 . I just checked and it seems that Dorothy\'s age was never described in the books not her appearance. At least not in the text. There seems to be some agreement she is 11 when she goes to live in Oz forever and the age of 7 has been mentioned for the first book.

I\'m worried about the pose. The monkey + basket is going to put a lot of stress on the arm. And this is made worse by the fact that it\'s a thin girl\'s arm. I\'d go for the basket on the arm, still making contact with the body (or dress).

@Tuubje. Do you have a digital camera? if so, you can make a photo of the drawing.

Exactly. Lets say that the drawing was what we should avoid ;). Lets see if Tuubje found a more workable pose. Besides, these are just propositions. We still have time to think up of other possibilities.

What scale is Steve\'s zO range?

sorry its been taking me so long guys..........my little one has been taking up all my time. however i did manage to knock up a quick concept sketch for a mini i\'d like to do. if we are all headed off on the wizard of OZ thingy that is fine. but heres an idea (front only) and i think i might try to have a go at the whole thingy myself in a different scale afterwards (thats if it takes off)

Well... i\'ve been sculpting lately. Maybe i could join the team? Ummm... only have one complete sculpt to my name, but have been doing heavy modifications for a while now. My latest to see my work;
ChaosTLC.jpg

And right before doing this mini i spent a good three months doing nothing buy faces/heads to prepair myself. So i think i\'m compentent with them, but not great. i\'ve also been wanting to sculpt wings for a VERY long time... maybe i could be on one of the monkey teams? Oh, and lastly (not for the team, but i would like to sculpt one some time next year) what do you think of a human, male, assassin type with the shifty eyes? Cool, no?

Nice one Stuart, and it gives more opportunities to people who are starting out (armor, equipement, ...). Your drawing technique reminds me that of a good friend of mine but he\'s in Paris ;).

Ming-Hua said that wings were real pains. What if we keep your design but do her in a more Sci-Fi way? Robotic wings would be cool and with less feathers ;).

Origineel geplaatst door green stuffExactly. Lets say that the drawing was what we should avoid ;).
Not necessarily. The side with the monkey pulling the hair is great. It\'s only the other side that needs to be adapted.

I\'m not sure, but we can ask at the forum of doom when time comes.

Ming-Hua said that wings were real pains.
Technically they are not that difficult but it\'s a hassle sculpting all the feathers. The technique can be the same as used for my captain of the cards: http://www.coolminiornot.com/71936 You can use brass sheet if you don\'t have mesh.

How about setting a poll in a few days to vote for the design we will use?

i actually think that the monkeys and basket thing can work, depending on pose. i\'m doing a few quick scetches at the moment, will put them up soon to show what i\'ve got in mind. Looking at bob olley\'s entry for the frothers unite comp, i think we shoulsd go with something like that, display base, nice little scene going....oh, and I know munkie wanted to do casting, but if we split the costsm it wouldn\'t be too expensive to get it done in metal....hell, we might even be able to sell casts in the cmon shop?(if it turns out to be any good)

Actually i did practically the same sketch with just one flying monkey pulling at the basket :)
Dorothy just holds the basket with both hands and leans more backwards

I\'ve taken the liberty to sketch into Greenstuff\'s drawing what I meant with my remarks (rough sketch, sorry):

dorothysketch.jpg

Facial expression: one eye squinting because of the hairpulling, basket on arm hand on belly (fist?), makes contact with dress (which should make casting easier as well as strengthen it), monkey closer to basket, holding with hands (he\'s slightly on his side so that should work).

Afterthough, you can put one monkey\'s foot on Dorothy\'s leg so he\'s pushing there while pulling the basket.
