Sculpting Query

Im trying to sculpt a birds nest for a mini Im doing and Im stuck. I want to do something like an eagles nest but its so small I cant seem to get it going. I tried to use wire to make the rough shape but it doesnt look right. I have also used green stuff but it doesnt look right either.

I think I am trying to do too much detail perhaps. The nest will be about 1.5cm x 1 cm sitting on a ledge that is .8cm x .8cm

Any help would be appreciated.

I\'m not much of a sculptor but you could probably make the general shape with green stuff (just roll a tube and make an \'O\' shape or what ever shape you desire) and wait for that to cure. Once it cures you could add more green stuff and make the straw/grass/twigs almost the same way you would do fur, after that you could use some wires sticking out for other branches, and maybe add some smaller pebbles and what not around the base of the nest. I hope I\'ve helped in some way. Just curious what is the base for?

You might try making a doughnut out of clay then with a knife cut, score, scrape it in the direction the twigs would be going. Do it as you might do hair.........mabey?

I got a tip recently for fur that might help.
One you have the nest shaped with the furr/twig texture done wait till the putty is hardening then use some fine tweezers to \"pull\" the fibres out. It creates much more texture depth and would look good nest wise.

Easy way:

Cut lots of short lengths of wire, varying thicknesses perhaps. These will be your twigs ^^ Build \'em up into the nest shape, bend\'em, break \'em, shake \'em, stick \'em together, spray black and paint accordingly. :innocent: Then you can add bits of lichen, down in the nest or whatever. Hope that made some sort of sense, A bit hard to explain Remember, eagle nests are pretty big, and quite square-shaped, stacked up like a tower:

Hey Klute I wish you had of told me this like a couple of days ago (My problem) Ive just done a huge piece covered in fur and I was looking for better was to do fur.

I have a little bit to go so I\'ll give it a go. Do you have a copy of the article tute suggestion etc.


@Penguin. I tried that but I could keep the mess together (Cant use superglue I have built up an allergy against it.) Thanks for the pic tho. I will try and green stuff something like it.

Sorry I cant post wips but its for the Oz GD. I will post wips if it does any good at the comp.

What about wire wool?

You could pull it to get the right shape and then put pieces of thicker fuse wire of you feel the need to show some of the larger twigs...

Avicenna has hit on a good idea there.
Use Wire wool on a thin shell of Green Stuff with some strands of household electric wire separated out as the larger twigs.

Another good option would be the \'vines\' that you get as part of the Hudson & Allen Ivy pack. More expensive/time consuming to get hold of than wire wool, but it might have a more organic look to it
