Sculpting Update; Modification to The Maelstrom

As we recently announced, Alf Vierth is sculpting the Donella Fang. Recently Alf sent us an update on the progress of the fig so we thought we would share it with all of you. Alf included some pics of the Fang along side the Donella Huntress to demonstrate the scale. As you can see Alf has began work on the tail portion of the fig as well as working on some details. Great work Alf! This is going to be a great addition to our line.

We recently played The Maelstrom Scenario in our local hobby store. One of the players suggested that we try the scenario where the Maelstrom movement is not hindered by friendly units. In the original write-up, when the unit moving contacts another friendly unit the Maelstrom movement ends and normal movement can proceed from there. We modified this to where the unit moving flies right over the friendly unit assuming there is ample room on the other side of the friendly unit to “land”. If there is not enough room on the opposite side of the friendly unit then the unit moving stops as soon as contact with the friendly unit is made.
We had 4 players so we decided to do a team game with 2 players on each team. Each player fielded a 600 point Hundred Kingdoms army. On Team 1, P used Bushido and H used Wildling. On Team 2, R also fielded Wildling and S used Panthera. For our game we also decided to have The Maelstrom effect the entire battlefield. Things got off to a wild start. P from Team 1 immediately began to move his Warlord, Emperor Ashikaga, toward the conquest point in order to make Team 2 focus only on his Warlord. H from Team 1 and R from Team 2 almost immediately clashed due to their quick movement. S on Team 2 seemed to stall in the beginning of the game as most of his Maelstrom rolls were low. As Ashikaga approached the conquest point S was able to work his way into a good position to address the situation. S had also thinned out some of H's Wildlings along the way. R had taken some pretty serious casualties from his scuffles with H. P was now ready to make his move. He had positioned a lot of his units around Ashikaga as a buffer against the encroachment of S's Panthera army. It is now time for Ashikaga to take conquest. The Maelstrom roll was made and it ended up being a 15. Imagine P's surprise. What this meant was that Ashikaga had been jettisoned way outside of the buffer created by the movement of support units up to this point. This was the break S needed. Ashikaga is now exposed. S sent in a wounded unit of Cheetahs first. There were currently 5 Cheetahs in the unit. They charged and inflicted 3 points of damage on the Emperor. The cheetahs then retreat (they have Hit and Run) to give someone else a shot. Next a unit of Jaguar Javelin Throwers are dispatched to fire on the good Emperor. They hit their mark. The Emperor is down and the rest of the Bushido army begin to leave the battlefield. In short order H from Team 1 is stalked and defeated. Team 2 wins. It was a blast.
Give it a try and let us know what you think.
