hey again, i come on here and tbh im abit afraid to submit anything i produce as i dont fel it is fufilling my potentiall, i com here now in dire need of some help.

i want to personalise my men better, make them mine and to do that i need to be able to sculpt. but i dont have any idea on how to start it.

most of the stuff i would like to do is sculpting deamonic barrels and such like, the same as GW do but on different weapons and with more uniqeness(sorry if thats not even a word lol)

i was hoping someone of greatness, so anyone on here could help me or point me in the right direction to somewhere or someone that can aid me in this quest.

Thanks as always

Not sure what the specific question there is.

In general, PRACTISE...........get a crappy old fig you dont care about and try some different things. Go to the Works in Progress section and post some pictures.

Sculpting for beginers

Hi ,while Im not a pro I have been teaching myself how to do minis for a few years off and on...I thought you might apprciate some tricks Ive learned...
1-Spit or water is better for making your tools not stick to green stuff(I know they say oil etc.but I find it makes the putty greasy and it won\'t stick to the model I\'m working on)
2-Get green stuff .Ive used everything from fimo to spakle and for real crisp clean detail green is the best.
3-I can carve using a toothpick as well as most can with a very expensive tool....don\'t waste your money on the latest greatest tool(It\'ll make ya lazy and you won\'t push yourself to improve : )
4-Look at things ,everything has an essence something that if you capture it when its two inches tall...people will still go Oh thats a _____fill in the blank.
5-When i find a cool pattern on something (a shoulder pad or skull or something)I make a little mold out of green stuff.Just take a ball of putty slightly bigger then the object and push it on to the object.Make sure the surrounding surface is flat so that the mold can just be pushed on to flattened putty.Make sure you let the mold sit for a day to dry and you may want to grease the inside with a thin layer of cooking oil before using your mold.( I hope that was clear)
anyways if you find anything here interesting let me know and if you have any questions about something in paticular ,let me know ...

well heres a link
http://uk.games-workshop.com/convershunklinic/green-stuff/1/
iv sculpted a bit (done 2 figuers) and basiclly just work out a plan (e.g an arm) then put a blob of green stuff let it dry then use the stuff in the link to put details on it. BUT, (you can if you want) dont do hands, they are VERY hard (i think) but then that might just be my low skill

actually i always found hands to be ok, as long as they are grasping something. feet are a pain. there have been a few sculpting threads lately, have a browse or search through the forums.

best tips i can think of atm are:

keep you tools wet - licking them will stop them sticking ot the gs

only mix a little at a time and work up in layers

when scoulting something, break it down into shapes, it will help you visualise it in 3 dimensions

draw as well, again, it will help you visualise how it will come together

as shawn said, practice is the key though. it has taken me years to get to my questionable skill level!

@Freakinacage - LICKING the tools? You do remember green stuff is toxic right :p

Tbh, you\'d probably have to eat a fair bit to actually get ill, but why risk it :D

gs isn\'t toxic. it was designed as a plumbing putty so therefore has to be fairly non toxic (although they thought that lead was ok...)iwould imagine it\'s fine unless you eat it
