Whether or not a sculptor can sell his stuff, thus being dependent on painters, is irrelevant here, IMO. A sculptor would probably sculpt anyway, as an output for creativity. As such, the painter is unnecessary. But the painter (we\'re talking miniature painters here) are dependent of the sculptor to provide the miniatures regardless of what the painter\'s purpose is.

I\'ve gone for sculptors .. close call though..
but I agree with the points that the sculptor would still express themselves without the painter ..The painter can not without the sculpt provided..The geater artist .. well probably the painter as they are bringing life to the canvas the sculptor creates.. while the sculptor thinks of proportion and form the painter considers textures, colours , coposition Light and more..

I voted sculpture. I don\'t think it is all that artistic to be honest. But creating a 3D object from a description or a quick sketch or a picture you saw somewhere is far more flexible and artistic than colouring inside the lines on your 3D colouring book, aka, the model.
This is like asking who\'s a bigger artist? The guy who does the line drawings or the guy who colours them in, in the colouring books...or the inker or colourist (or whatever they called themselves in Chasing Amy) for Comics.
The difference is minor but sculpting has to edge out on top, IMO.

it really depends on what context you are asking about.
both are important for different things.
for example a painter can paint anything, just needs some pigment and a surface.
the sculptor needs more to create his work, and without it can create nothing.

I have taken this as a question relating to minis and mini painting as that is kind of the sites content.
I voted for the sculptors in response to the first of Supervikes questions as to who is more important for the simple reason that the mini painter without minis is stuck without the object they need to express their art.
However as to which is the better...impossible for me to say and I can\'t decide myself. I think if you were to put two identical minis next to each other with one painted to a decent standard and one not painted...the majority would prefer the painted one. That doesn\'t necessarilty make the painter better than the sculptor though. I think whilst the two are part of the same hobby they are very different and require different skill sets so comparing the two is akin to comparing an engineer and a pilot...both are needed for the plane to fly but saying who is the better is really tough...
I\'ve voted for sculpture because that is what drives my painting, both in attempt at interpretation and desire to paint.
