Sea themed warmachine mercenary army

I am planning to start a warmachine mercenary army. I am sticking with the talion charter (pirates, yar!) and I wanted a sea themed color scheme that does not look like that studio scheme. Anyone have any suggestions on colors for a sea/ocean themed army?

Those are some great minis and colors, thanks! I have tried to use several color scheme programs to generate colors and most end up with some blue-green types colors with orange accents. I guess I will need to think of some way to make mine look unique.

Hi Aliengod3, the only other thing I've come up with, assuming that you don't fancy green-stuffing barnacles over a whole army, is to pick a tropical fish pattern. Bright blue holiday brochure water colour as a bulk base, then a specific fishes colours/pattern for each unit/division. Could be a chance to play with some irredescent effects if you're looking to push your skills ever further? I suspect eldar armies would be the place to start looking in the Gallery.

If the super clean & bright patterning of the fish doesn't appeal (freehand scales over everything? Weapon swaps to harpoon guns & (electro-)nets? ) you could do worse than look at some J.M.W. Turner paintings, his water is rather nice ;) Lots of colours & a different sense of movement & light that would be a challenge to paint on a mini but if you come out of it with an army that looks as though it's stood under stormy skies it'll be a winner.

...further minor changes might help suggest the sea theme...

Comms could use semaphore, make use of correct naval flags on units maybe.
Clamshell beltbuckles/shoe clasps might be easy to model?
Vehicles/robots/warmachines to have flotation tanks/rudders/propellors?

Seaplants might make for nice freehand cloak edging, seaweed rather than ivy?

There's that recent GW Dark-Eldf character figure with an octopus helmet that's a nice design.

My brain marches on but I realise I don't know what a Warmachine army looks like, is it those Warjack Dreadnaught things? :)

Perhaps someone else will chime in with something more useful?

PS Littlest Mermaid tattoos on bare arms? There's a nice nude one by J.M. Linsner (Dawn) knocking about that was a special in a card set years ago if you want to search for reference without hitting a Disney site :D

if that's what the studio scheme looks like as I have no idea

If you search Google for a Tyranid army called Desert flower, this has a very organic look and part of his army is done in a blue crab. Check it out! Good luck.

get ahold of rich curtiss he is chippewa38 on here. he has some great and amazing nautical themed guys he did back in 2007 for gencon. you might also be able to find it in an old privateer press issue or online. but trust me mate good stuff.
