searching for historical tabletop - any ideas

hi everyone

in the last time i´m more and more interested in historical miniatur ganmes instead of fantasy
ones (maybe it´s an age thing).
I´m looking for a game covering the time of the napoleonic aera/ the american revolution ( ~ 1775 - 1814 ) , a.k.a. the time when war was all about lines of bajonetted muskets.

i allready googled a bit, but of cause there are hundreds of games for this aera - and of cause everyone is great, brilliant detailed, etc... .
So i thought i ask you , if you can recommend any game (tabletop or Cosim). The game should

- allow historical campaigns
- last not longer than about 3 - 4 hours (once played age of eagle and it lasted nine hours)

I\'d say it depends on a couple of things -

What scale are you looking at?

I\'ve played both 15mm and 25mm ACW and the scale can make a difference - 15mm tends to put more figures on the board and play quicker than 25 mm in my experience.

Vikes right there are some good things on there....

The guys on customhobby.com seem pretty knowledgeable on all hings terrainy maybe pop your head in there...

apparently the warhammer historical rules are pretty good and if you\'ve already played warhammer fantasy the transition should be relatively painless...
Don\'t know much on range of minis but Foundry and perry twins were the stock answer for a while and still pretty much are (I think) so have a search...

Flames of War (I think?) is the current best system for \'modern\' warfare. I\'ve seen lots of WW2 stuff for it.

Looks a lot like the old micro-armor games.

Farin - couple of others that might meet your \"Lines of Bayonnettes\" concept -

Johnny Reb - ACW, but with that whole firing away and pounding the crap out of each other - 15mm and the last time I played it was about 4 hrs total - and that included set up and tear down.

Sword and the Flame - Colonial era (1860-1910 or so) 25mm - not so much lines troops slugging away, but a great deal of fun can be had fighting as the British in an outnumbered situation.
