Secrecy over Golden Demon entries

I always wait till after GD to post the pics of my entries, but like others have said, I will show WIP pics to a few close friends as I do them.

IMHO, it is much more exciting to see the entries for the first time at GD, it would be a bit lame to have seen all the winning entries online weeks before the event.

@ipaintminis - never say never, all it takes is hard work and determination, well, at least that\'s what I keep telling myself lol

Doesn\'t make much of a difference for me. The purrpose of people like me entering is to make those who didn\'t make the top three feel better about themselves. :D

It was fun this year to look back upon last years entry and scoff at the lack of skill, and I\'m sure no matter how well my entry is painted this year, I\'ll be saying the same thing next year.

Secrecy! Bah!

I\'ve been posting step by step WIPs on all my entries since day 1. I really don\'t need to worry, as I\'m really not good enough to win anything. I do however like the secrecy, as it\'s like a sudden tidal wave of great painting every time a GD hits.

A lot of GD competitiors will also be pretty open with their stuff as long as they know you\'re someone they can trust. :)

Thats a great idea, and now everytime I post soemthing people will be \"so is this the GD entry?\" and I\'ll be \"maybe... maybe not...\" :D

I like the idea of e-mailing people pics, anyone want to volunteer?

How do you know you can trust the people who volunteer not to show anyone else? ???

I\'ve established a rapport of trust with certain people that I know won\'t \'spill the beans\', so to speak. This comes about from long dialogues and/or I know where they live. *wink*

Be careful who you place your trust with so it isn\'t easily betrayed. Talk to people whose style you like, and see if they will critique. You will be surprised how many of us are willing to share our techniques.

Nah, I\'d love to, but it\'s too far, too expensive...It would be fun to do a \"Duo\" interview sometime, though. :)

Owen, I\'ll always love you more than Andrew. Just because I talk about him endlessly and am naming my fave Golden Daemon entry after him doesn\'t mean anything... it\'s just that Owen, or Fitzpatrick don\'t lend themselves to a Nurgle Lord character as well as \"Cromwell\" does...

I may put some stuff there, but currently we\'re both booked as reporters in the field for Fox: mini news, erm, I mean Electric Ocean. Terry (yrret) has us minions slaving away for his news empire. :D

well, the main reason why secrecy is the done thing is to make sure that the Judges don\'t know what you\'re entering. This cuts both ways however, since most of the time when someone shows the entries to the judges(or relative studio staff) early, they have placed, although sometimes, not as high as they could have, or have even been cut out of the loop, because of it.

i\'m very guarded about my entries, there\'s a few people who know what i\'m entering, but I know from experience that even on the day itself the Usual Suspects are reluctant to show their port folios...this has to do with the internal competition, and it\'s also kinda fun to guess who did what. i\'m not willing to share what i\'m entering untill the morning of going to GD, mainly because i want to make sure in my mind that if I don\'t place, it wasn\'t due to some indescression of the judges knowing the entry was mine. i know, paranoid, but if I know that\'s not possible, than i\'m all the happier for it.

Plus It\'s a stupid kind of superstition, I don\'t show my entries incase they get damaged.

I agree with alot of the comments already mentioned. For me though I think its more a case of I haven\'t decided whether I\'m going yet let alone if I will enter.

Regarding the last I think its one hell of a hurdle to convince yourself to enter given the standards you can expect and if you can meet and rise above those standards from a lot of great names in this hobby.

I suppose the choice is made harder in that apart from the odd 25mm scale and above mini I paint mostly small scale and to have it judged against a larger figure doesn\'t really hold a lot of hope for it I think.

However I will probably bite the bullet and go if not enter just to have a look the thought of all those annoying 12 to 16 year olds has always put me off in the past:D

On a seperate note I\'m in Plymouth working around this time I know there is at least one other on the list in that area so if anybody wants to think about sharing transport give me a shout.

I resent that! What could you find annoying about smelly, unwashed, noisy, rude, and slightly intimidating hormone factories?
