Securing Jet Packs for Priming/Painting

Hello!

I\'ve several GW Sisters of Battle minis that I\'ve got just about ready for the priming stage. I just have to wait for my mini files to arrive in the mail, so that I can do the last bits of clean up. I\'ve got the bodies of the minis set up for priming/painting already. I\'m using a binder clip and box system, so that I don\'t have to flip the minis over when I\'m priming. I\'m also cheap.

How should I secure the jet packs that accompany the Seraphim? I was thinking using bamboo skewers with a bit of poster putty at the end. Does anyone think that willl work? I just can\'t see painting them, just to rub it all off when I turn them over to do the other side.

What I do for backpacks is get a nice thick part of the pack and drill a small hole on the fixing side and glue in a paper clip. You can then stick the other end of the paper clip into your box and prime it.

Then when getting to the stage of painting the backpack stick the other end of the clip into a cork stopper and its a nice holding tool. Bonus is if you don\'t have any cork stoppers you can go buy some nice wine (as you need the cork) for painting .

I Think I Found a Solution

Thanks for the advice! I\'m a little afraid to attack these jet packs with a drill. They\'re so thin, and I\'m not known for my subtlety with power tools.

However, upon examining them, I realized that the inset for the Seraphim is just about the diameter of the arm of a Q-Tip. So, I cut the fuzzy parts off, and am using the binder clips with those as well. Hopefully, this will work out.

Firstly Welcome to the forums

a great tool to have for drilling your minis is a pin vice similar to an exacto handle (tho some are nicer the gw one is pretty nice) but instead of a blade it holds a small drill bit and you just drill by hand turning. Makes pinning arms and other lil bits a breeze.

and Good idea using those clips as mini holders thats a simple n easy way of doin it

Welcome to the forums and welcome another Nuns W\'Guns fan.

As for the Seraphim they are notorious for being a swine to stay upright, when glued in the bases. I\'ve ended up glueing 2p coins to the underside of the base to provide stability.
Look forward to seeing some painted work, especially the \"Naughty Nuns\".

Friar - I\'ve just ordered my pin vise! My husband will be shaking his head at me when he sees the number of tools that will be arriving in the next couple of weeks. Ha!

I don\'t think he expected me to get into the hobby quite so much in such a small amount of time. *grin* I think he forgets that my mentality is one of, \"If I\'m going to do it, I\'d better do it well!\" Of course, I\'ve also got the additional excuse that he\'s got a metal Tyrannid that is absurdedly top-heavy and needs a lot of help to stay together.

Dragonsreach - I had noticed that the Seraphim are top-heavy. I was considering how to counteract that - Since I\'m not in the UK, the American penny should suffice! I can\'t wait to get some paint on these beauties, but I\'m also determined to do as good a job as I\'m capable. I may be an extremely novice painter, but I\'d like to look at my army and be proud of my effort. My SoB may be destined for the gaming table, but that\'s no excuse for slapping on a coat of paint can calling it \"done.\"

I\'ll be keeping a blog of my efforts here, mostly to keep myself motivated. I\'m also thinking I\'ll enjoy looking back and seeing my progress.

Now, if only my files would arrive..

SOB\'s do look really good in so many color schemes. I Chose to do mine in a \"NonStandard\" colour scheme of Old Bone armour & Red robes.
But I\'ve painted examples in Red Armour, Blue armour and even Mint green with brown Robes.

lol now you just need to get a nice pink toolbox \"for Mama\'s Tools Only\" lol my grandma did this an she won\'t let my grandpa touch em \"cuz he always looses my tools\" she says. Funniest thing she has this lil granma hammer that got this pudgey handle thats pink an all painted up. Kinda tool no guy would pick up

My Own Tools

Ha! I\'m the handy one in this marriage. We can\'t go to hardware or hobby stores because of my addictions.

I was daddy\'s little girl growing up, and even now, my father purchases tools for my birthday. Last year, it was a power drill, a new set of screw drivers, a dremel..

So, when repairs need doing around the house, I take care of them :bouncy:

I love the hubby, but his familiarity with tools goes about as far as the screw drivers he uses to open up his PC.
