Seeking Opinions on Painting Eldar Aspects

Hey all,

Been a long time lurker - as in years :D - and I figured it was time to reach out and pick some brains. I took a break from painting - more like got addicted to WoW - but have decided to come back to it - more like split my time between my two obsessions - and my first undertaking shall be finishing my Eldar army.

That said, I have a huge dilemma - I can\'t decide how to paint my aspect warriors. I know that I would like a combination of my craftworld\'s scheme and the standard aspect scheme, but that is as much as I know. So I was hoping that if I asked for help then maybe I could get some much needed inspiration.

Okies, to start with, here is a picuture of what my guardians look like (they are all I have painted so far)

The aspects I am having trouble with are scorpions, fire dragons, and banshees.

Here are some blank templates for each of them that I was able to fins on the boards at 40konline

I\'m not asking that people color these in - granted you are more than welcome to - I am just offering em in case that help get your brain-juices flowing :)

And, in case you can\'t remember what the aspects normally look like, here you go:

(from Dr. Faust\'s Painting clinic)

Granted it\'ll make a little difference, my figures are from the previous designs (like the dragon from Dr. Faust\'s site) but these are the best picts I could find.

Anyhow, again - I am glad to finally be posting here and I hope you all can help me out with getting passed this hump in my road.

:flip:

Sounds good, the guardian is great btw! You should try to ad the colors of the guardians to some parts of the aspect warriors. The guns could be the same or close, and the banshee could get blue hair and loin cloth, or something like that :)
Just some thought.

Indeed, I was never a fan of the overly bright aspect warriors. I think it\'s best either to have them in aspect colours with some craftworld accents, or flip it around and paint them mailnly in your craftworld scheme with just some aspect accents here and there..?

I think the fire dragon should be fairly easy to do in your current scheme, just replace the blue with orange/red.
Try using the blue as your Banshees loin cloth colour, and possibly the yellow instead of the bone. I think the scorpions will be the toughest, as I always see them as Green. I can\'t see any reason why you couldn\'t do them blue though.

I\'ve just got a squad of each Aspect, but I like their different colour schemes, so am going to be boring and stick with them.
But as Dragonsreach said to me \"It\'s your money and your army\" (probs not the exact wording, but you get the drift), so feel free to paint it whatever colour you want.

Think I decided to paint my Aspects the typical GW colours, but give all my troops and vehicles a unified scheme (still haven\'t decided on one though)

k, so I was doing some mock-ups for my fire dragon scheme and I have two possibilities so far, I would like to know what you all think. Be warned, these are super messy pictures.

The first scheme uses only the blue and bone colors of my craftworld with red on the loincloth and tubing.

I was gonna try for a flame motif onn the helm similar to Dr. Faust\'s but have decided against it and will just make the whole fin blue.

My biggest problem with this scheme is that nothing really says Fire Dragon about them (granted I know the easiest way to do that would be to paint em to the standard scheme)

The following two picts are of a similar scheme but with more orange mixed in to try and bring that Fire Dragon feel out of em. In the finished products the orange would be more subdued i think.

Anyhow, those are my first two thought, if anybody here want to say what they think works or doesn\'t work - please do, I\'m here for your opinions :)

Okies, so I was able to get mock-ups done for the scorps and banshees. Here are some picts of what I got so far:

All three together:

And finally with the Guardian for an idea how the army would like as a whole:

All-in-all I think the figures all blend in well together, as in they look very similar to one another; the only thing is I am not sure if like that yet ???

So, what are your thoughts on the aspects blending into the army versus having their own unique color schemes? Any ideas on how to improve the mock-ups (other than actually painting em nicer :) ) Anything that just seems out of place?

Thanks again for any ideas/opinions you might have.

I think the schemes are nice if you want them to blend into the rest of your army.

Personally I prefer them to stand out, as each Aspect is different and follows their own path. The blue scorpion does look as \'odd\' as I thought it would, but thats just because I have always seen them as green for 20yrs.

I think your army would look cool when it is all stood together on the table top, just not my cup of tea :)
